The result is The Hobbit: The Tolkien Edit, more accurately following the style of the book

Some of the biggest cuts include:
-The investigation of Dol Guldor has been completely excised
-The Tauriel-Legolas-Kili love triangle has also been removed
-The Pale Orc subplot is vastly trimmed down
-Several of the Laketown scenes have been cut, such as Bard's imprisonment and the superfluous orc raid.
-The prelude with old Bilbo is gone.
-Several of the orc skirmishes have been cut.
-Several of the action scenes have been tightened up, such as the barrel-ride, the fight between Smaug and the dwarves (no molten gold in this version), and the Battle of the Five Armies.
-A lot of filler scenes have been cut as well.

thx for info, never wanted to watch this because it did not like what they were doing with the films. This might be worth it once he releases the 6gig HD version instead that shitty SD blurry thing

I don't understand why? The movies honestly weren't amazing. But they were fine for a 1 time watch

For the book-nerds.
and for people who felt the film was too hollywoodised. e.g. the barrel escape scene with that dwarf-in-a-barrel bouncing off the river valley walls, taking out 20 orcs in an absurd and jarringly unrealistic string of good luck.
and eg. from the blog:

"The prelude with old Bilbo is gone. As with the novel, I find the film works better if the scope starts out small (in a cosy hobbit hole), and then grows organically as Bilbo ventures out into the big, scary world. It is far more elegant to first learn about Smaug from the dwarves’ haunting ballad (rather than a bombastic CGI sequence). The prelude also undermines the real-and-present stakes of the story by framing it as one big flashback."

I don't understand why people can't use special effects for good instead of bad

i mean the hobbit it's like die another day level garbage it has no business in tolkien. save that stuff for a movie where it belongs like the matrix or just dump it in the cinematic landfill that is transformers

recutting or reediting doesn't work btw people tried it with the star wars prequels, the problem is ultimately the director not the editor. the hobbit did the same thing to me the star wars prequels did, it just made me realize the originals were shit too (except for empire strikes back)

i turned on this TV show called scorpion because i thought hey someone somewhere is making a new tv show that isn't csi and i didn't follow it too close but there was something about a guy on a plane and he blew up a hole in the side of the plane which is fine enough but then the throttle got jammed and it's accelerating down the runway so meanwhile his team sees there's a problem so they somehow drive one of those stair trucks to catch up with it and maintain jet engine speeds down the runway which was probably about 10km considering how much conversation they had to have before he jumped out the side of the plane and landed on the truck. how many donkeys had the chance to tell someone how obviously bad these ideas are but didn't?

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen

No wonder Tolkien's kids said they wont sell any of his work again to Hollywood
The Hobbit movies weren't based on only Hobbit the book, I've read it - necromancer, orcs and etc etc. aren't even mentioned there, the final battle is between trolls, dwarves & elves and begins and finished in about 10 pages overall ( well preparations are quite more but still ) . I've talked to a few people that told me those stories are added by the "Silmarillion" book of Tolkien, which would imply that Hollywood owns the rights on that as well?Guess so...

I've seen 1st and 2nd movie, 1st was pure shit, 2nd was okay I guess, but I dont even feel like watching the 3rd. The best way to watch them is with the mindset that they ll suck though, as our generation is highly biased due to the LOTR trilogy. I doubt any of us will ever see any better cinematic for its time

I can't believe how bad the hobbit was. It's nearly 15 years ago that they made an amazing movie out of the first book of LotR. Peter Jackson seems to have gone backwards in his film making ability.

Word, that was a lot worse. My gf even complained about that scene. Looks incredibly silly.

The moose that Thranduil is riding was awesome by the way, although totally not in line with the book either

Agreed on the barrel scene, it was pretty bad. You also notoriously hate everything possible to hate though lol

Pretty tilting because the story is essentially already written for you and hugely popular so all you have to do is put it to screen and not fuck it up.

Thats true, I let the hate flow in me

The original trilogy was still kinda shitty and childish but the Hobbit just took it to a whole new level. "lets go to an adventuuuure, ta ta ra raaaaaaaaaaa!" come on, how can you fucking enjoy that cheesy crap if you are older than twelve, monodimentional characters, predictable plot, cartoonish scenes where the good guys triumph over the badies for fucks sake... Tom & Jerry is more mature than that garbage.

I saw the first one and felt it was drawn out but most negatively it had no satisfactory conclusion. I hate that about all LOTR stuff as everyone is expected to keep showing up and view the whole series as one epic fantasy production. Sorry and maybe it's just me but that's fucking BS. Didn't watch the second but I caught a bit of it by chance 2 days ago and thought Smaug looked so fucking cool that I watched the last 20-30 min and it seemed alright... no conclusion there though either. Still, having skipped most of the second I agreed to watch the third at a friends place tonight on account of Smaug. FINALLY in the third movie within 10 mins there's the conclusion that should have been at the end of the second movie!! But NO, now we're in a new movie and honest to god the third movie sucked so hard. I fell asleep for part of it because it was so fucking dull. I think they could cut it down to 1 hour if they reduced all of the pointless long "character building" drawn out and "meaningful" epic pausing bullshit by 75-99%.

This. I've heard the 3rd one is semi decent, but what a let down.

I feel like jacksons heart wasn't really in it, that it just 'had' to be produced after the massive success of lotr. I remember it was a family thing to all go watch the movies during the xmas break, it was awesome.
