Other

- Jones was initially scheduled to face Alexander Gustafsson in a rematch on September 27, 2014 at UFC 178. However, Gustafsson pulled out of the bout due to a Knee injury and was replaced by Daniel Cormier. Subsequently on August 12, Jones pulled out of the bout against Cormier citing a leg injury, which in turn led to the rescheduling of the pairing to this event.
- A matchup for the Women's Bantamweight Championship between current champion Ronda Rousey and top contender Cat Zingano was briefly attached to this event. However, it was announced in late October that the pairing was delayed and would take place eight weeks later at UFC 184.
- Danny Castillo was expected to face Rustam Khabilov, but visa issues forced Khabilov out of the fight. He was replaced by Paul Felder.

First impression of the match-ups:

• Jones > Cormier
• Cerrone > Jury (Cerrone needs to avoid the early attacks from Jury in the first round, and then he's good to go. Cerrone usually gets out-struck in the 1st round and overall performs weak; he has admitted it time and time again.)
• Tavares vs. Marquardt (dunno)
• Horiguchi > Gaudinot
• Lombard > Burkman
• Castillo > Felder
• Garbrandt > Brimage
• Jordan > Cannonier
• Dunham > Damm
• Akhmedov vs. Nilsson (dunno)
• Dufresne vs. Reneau (dunno)

One of my most anticipated fights ever. No idea how it plays out. We haven't really seen Cormier vs any tall, skilled guys who are good at maintaining distance, which Jones is the best at. And that battle of distance is a huge part of who wins this. Can't wait.

Aside from the main event this is basically a fight pass card.

Do people really think Cormier has a pretty good chance to win this?

I've seen both fight and Jones seem like he should be a bigger favorite (-170 last I checked) than what he is. Can someone who knows what they're talking about help me understand this fight and why the lines are pretty close?

I think Jon Jones is going to destroy Cormier and that Miles Jury isn't nearly ready for Donald Cerrone.
I think theres value in both lines.

Jones will destroy Cormier for sure.I think the first thing Jon will do is take DC down and i think there is pretty good chance that will be it.If not ,the beating Daniel is going to get will be devastating.
DC does not have the power and can not knock Jones out(it is preety clear).
It is even more impossible to submit him.
And the only way to beat him is grind him out.It is pretty unlikely as he is 76 years old and Jon is the strongest guy in the division.
If DC goes to distance with Jon i will be impressed of him.
And i think Myles has a pretty good chance. He is very fast and great striker and if he is calm and relaxed he can beat up cowboy.I think it will be pretty even match up.

Watch Cerrone's last fight and Miles Jury last fight, hes just going to stalk him and hurt him like a tank. Miles Jury doesn't have the power to deter him.

Agree about the power ,but i think Myles may well be just too fast for Cowboy(not sure though how it will play).I personally think it is a coinflip.Cowboy do have problems with good strikers and do better vs jiu jitsu guys.

LOL what are you talking about, Im ont saying that Jones cant take DC down but saying it will be the first thing he does is plain retarded, DC is the better wrestler and it would be an idiotic game plan for Jones to wrestle DC, everybody knows Jones has outstrike him from the outside and why do you think Jones is impossible to submit? Belfort armbared him and had he had a slightly better grip on his arm he would have won that fight, in fact Jones long limbs are a wet dream for any submission specialist.

Only way Jones keeps his title after Jan 3rd is getting injured and pulling out of the fight. Expecting 3rd/4th round stoppage for DC, just pure mauling while keeping him pressed against the cage or ground.

We have now sunk to a depth at which restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men.

Well I'll give this a shot because I think he has a pretty decent chance. DC would be a sizeable favorite over anyone else in the division right? Not that it's a direct correlation. Then there's also the fact that DC is coming down from a heavier weight which most people view as an advantage or at least an xfactor.

Then, if you look back on Jones' opponents, every single guy he's fought in his title run including his initial win over Shogun has been basically been vs strikers. Or at least not someone known for any sort of offensive wrestling. Rampage, Shogun, Machida, Belfort, Evans, Gustufasson, Glover. Only Chael was a wrestler and he just simply doesn't count since he undeservedly talked his way into a shot and Jones was still somehow reluctant to fight him on short notice. That and I don't think there's any doubt that Cormier would make Chael look like a child and dump him on his head as well if they fought.

And now Jones is fighting easily the best wrestler he's faced by far and also the physically strongest. I think that was proven by the way he literally threw Dan Henderson around the cage for 3 rounds.

With that said, Jon Jones is a pretty amazing athlete. Should be a great fight.

Glover: 76
Gustafsson: 81.5

Not sure how anyone can be so sure Jones will thrash DC. DC has basically never lost a single round in MMA, and he's fought some top 10 HW's.

I mean I'd probably favor Barnett & TRT Bigfoot over anyone Jones has beat. With the exception of maybe Gus.

Another thing Cormier has going for him is he's trained with Cain his whole career, so he knows how to put on that unrelenting forward pressure, which is what it takes to beat someone with a foot of reach on you.

Jones is my #1 p4p so I definitely favor him. But I'm not super confident he will beat DC either.

I think it will be one sided either way, but the feud alone will make the 1 minute fight worth watching lol

It's because Jones has very good explosiveness at close distances, which is basically the counter to the mauling Cain style. Thats basically the difference between Jones and JDS.

DC has to push relentlessly and being reckless and taking risks trying to keep Jones backing to the cage and hopefully clinch agianst the cage as much as possible, if he stays outside and tries to slip inside kind of like Belfort tried to do he will get demolished, he has to adapt a Matt Brown style but with more wrestling

The difference between JDS and Jones isnt that... the difference is absolutely everything for fucks sake, they arent remotely alike

The difference of why JDS is so vulnerable to a good mauling and Jones isn't.*
