Blizzcon 2014

overwatch looks fun, but why is blizzard going this art direction with their games now?

i dont like the art style of overwatch either, too childish but i guess this is what the mainstream esport needs so that TV channels can broadcast it during daytime?

(btw the intro of overwatch is a pile of shit disgrace for blizzard imho....i mean they used to do these dark epic warcraft/starcraft/diablo intros and now its fucking pixars toy story for children)

i dont see what the big deal is about the new "art direction" blizzard is attempting with overwatch. it's their first venture into a fps i don't see what all the commotion is about.

i think it looks good, but more importantly i think it looks fun. nothing wrong with a game not taking itself too seriously.

Yeah we grew up with blizzard's games and their whole ideology used to be different from the fundamentals up so what? It's not like their video was bad nor the gameplay video ( not sure if its in OP, but there is one )
Plus it seems to me like you re using the comparison to Pixar as a negative which is hilarious. Pixar is the one and only animation studio which is perfect in every aspect and their work is as good for children as for grown ups. Guess people don't understand the ideas behind them and I'm guessing you've read that in a few other posts roaming around the net...

Before everything blizzard is a company. And a company works for profit. If this is the way they need to go to stay in business they should do it. It's not like they ll abandon the fun and etc... I've read about the abandonment of their "Titan" project and to be honest I'm glad they did it. Game theoretically seemed interesting, but would've practically sucked balls. Instead of continuing like most companies would and basically robbing people out of their money, they decided to throw it in the garbage. Considering they pulled out all of their best developers for it they basically threw a huge amount of money away. So what I mean is Blizzard is still working FOR the customers in first place, even if they fuck up from time to time ( e.g. Diablo 3 pre exp )

i'm pretty sure if you played d3, at some point you thought "wow, what the fuck happened since d2" graphics wise. nowadays, everything is super colorful instead of the dark, gritty style that blizzard (used to be) known for. compare d3 to PoE for example and you'll see exactly what i mean. hots is the exact same way, looks like a big ugly cartoon.

Overwatch looks very interesting and i would def try it out but it's not something i can see myself playing a ton of. Love the charm of hearthstone and anything with gnomes = win!

1. Graphics can look "good" with low system requirements.
2. Easy to distinguish game elements for online streams, especially if those streams are low quality.

Damn, I'm very surprised to see a trailer like that from blizzard. I seem to be in the minority here and have no desire to play this new game. To me, it looks like a giant mish-mash of characters someone thought was a good idea while high on LSD.

That, and I can't shake the obvious mistakes blizzard made while creating d3 before our eyes. It was like their entire company was re-learning what that style of game was all about. D3 was successful, because it's blizz, but so far from it's potential, and that has had a lasting impression. I can't even speculate on this FPS thing though. Huge turnoff.

WoW is 10 years old. and is an absolute core to blizzard's identity. and is colorful. i wouldn't describe WoW as dark nor gritty. i don't really understand why u guys want every game released by blizzard to look or feel a certain way.

Had a blast playing Overwatch at blizzcon. Best first person shooter I've played in a long time! Didn't really spend much time playing anything else at the event..

God damn I wish I would have known for sure LOTV and OW were demo'd I would have done that for sure.

Last time Quesadilla just called me down there saying all these people wanted to meet me or hang out or whatever and we ended up having drinks by the pool with all the cool cats on Sunday night. Maybe it was an MLG i dunno. I was surprised Huk remembered me from wol beta.

Overwatch looks and sounds fun in theory but i suspect that the game will have too many imbalances and exploits for it to become a competitive game though i hope i'm wrong.

What i really like about Overwatch is how its gonna have a SMART matchmaking system. Most shooters ive played never had good match making systems, which is one of the reasons i never really got into those. Most shooters have both total newbs and pros in the same game, which is kinda stupid. Overwatch matchmaking will be just like SC2 or lol match making.
