[TV Show] "The Strain"

Now this show has really turned it around the last couple of episodes. I was expecting too much at first and after reading some whiny reviews online, I was convinced that it would turn to shit after a couple of eps. Surprisingly, even the critics who read the book (who thought it was meh) are starting to rave about how good it is starting to become. It's really whatever "The Walking Dead" never was but what everyone hoped it would become - a simple story with monsters walking around the city and a band of people fighting to survive, and only "some" drama and comedy thrown in from time to time to keep you interested. Highly recommended.

It's up to episode 8 now (for people who don't like waiting forever to keep it moving)

First 2 maybe 3 eps were quite fast paced and I enjoyed them but then it slowed down a LOT to the point of taking the piss then it sped up again to an almost acceptable pace but still just too slow. It's ok, like 5/10 atm tbh.

Anyone read the books? Goodreads's rating is terrible and from what i read plot is also fast paced in the beginning and turns into shit in the books as well


Would be cool if someone actually did some plot like The Originals except taking the story in the very beginning during vikings etc. time, would be something worth watching/reading

It gets better LP, need to pull through the initial episodes (first up to the 5th). Once you get to like the characters it gets a whole lot better.

nah it's not good in that way. still, it's a whole lot better entertainment than the "walking dead". it's hella fun to watch.

It's good, minor glitches in it but it's a good show to watch, nothing epic tho.

No. Never ever even think about The Wire and this show in the same sentence...

The Strain's pilot episode is pretty good. Then the plot goes to complete and utter inane piss drivel shit. The last few episodes of season 1 are quite literally the worst thing ever, the writers should be ashamed, the actors... Some of them do a good job with limited material (the kid however, is the dumbest person in television history and the fact that he didn't die in season 1 is reason enough to not watch season 2 --- I'm gonna blame it on the writers and not the actor because I'm feeling nice).

Hugely disappointing show, maybe it's like a 4/10 because of nice visuals/effect and a couple of good episodes. Plot is retarded. Run to place X, fail miserably, run to place Y, fail again. Run to place Z and for some reason win piss-easily only to have the main villain randomly run away.

Agreed. DO NOT WATCH IT. First few eps were good and a lot was happening but then it just turned to shit. That said, I actually watched all of the show hoping it would get better like a mug. The flashbacks were my favourite part tbh. The finale was the most disappointing part though by far...

They had him stone cold dead and they just stood there instead of impaling him over and over again with silver etc? I dunno if it was the way it was filmed but how the fuck can they let him get away in that manner? SO over the top ridic passive. Not a single viewer would have watched that and thought, "well, they did their best gg wp guys wrap it up" and that just weakens the characters even further imo. It could have been done so much better than it was... I mean they knew he was the source of all the evil happening around them and they knew what they had lost and been through to get there but nobody went duke nukem on his ass? wtf

It's one of those shows where they should have condensed it to 6-8 episodes and made it way more intense.

A show that seems similar to what u guys are saying is Newsroom. first pilot was so awesome but then episode 2 was str8 garbage

yes the last few episodes were slipping hard. i stayed for the vampire SAS strike team and i think ill be sticking around to see what they do in season 2

Newsroom was, from my memory, significantly better than The Strain even so ;/
