JUMANJI! forgot about that one.
Aladdin was my favorite movie as a kid. I knew every word of that movie and would talk/sing along the whole film; probably still could. |

A lot of people don't know (or they do) that Williams used to kick it with Belushi, Phoenix and that crowd. He used to shoot speedballs on the regular. Recently checked into rehab for "alcoholism" but was probably more along the lines of depression and polydrug abuse. |

i think there's a chance he was diagnosed with something. i mean, doing drugs can get you killed, but people who die from drugs usually die from an OD. hoffman died from an OD, which may or may not have been intentional.
still, might have to watch a couple movies today

Usually, I think that the RIP pages are unwarranted, stupid, started by attention whores looking to break news of people who just did their job, and their job happened to be in the spotlight.
In this case, however, it is absolutely necessary.
Robin Williams brought joy and happiness into so many peoples lives, mine included. He will be missed terribly. Personally, I think you can look at Patch Adams to sum up his life... It is a sad and tragic ending to an amazing human being.
It would really upset me if the toxicology reports said he was on something. If he wanted to take his life, that's his deal. But I would hate to know his decision might not of truly been his if he were under an influence.
I just don't see how he couldn't find happiness in giving joy to people.
You'll be terribly missed. |

I like what you said but Patch Adams was his worst movie and ruined his career to some extent |

I saw him on the Daily Show not too long ago promoting his new sitcom.. Jon Stewart asked him why he was starring in the sitcom and his answer was basically "It's a job!" i.e. he needed the money. That's kind of sad for someone that is a born entertainer to no longer see it as "performing" but as "working." It's also sad to see everyone mention how much they loved him in movies he did 20 years ago but I haven't seen anyone compliment his work on anything he's done in the past 10 years |

he went through 2 really expensive divorces. a lot of actors end up working past their primes and chug out movies due to bad financial decisions (robert diniro, nick cage pre american treasure, scottie pippen, antoine walker).
as for robin williams, i don't have anything really meaningful to add. def felt really blue. he seemed best in roles that allowed for him to improv hence he was considered one of the best "talk show guests" and one of the worst "interviews" (since he was so much fun it was hard to stay on topic and cover certain bullet points).
reminds me to tell the important people in my life that i appreciate and love them. |

Uhm, his body of work stands forever. I can go back and rewatch alien from 35 years ago, is it sad I remember Giger for his most prominent artwork? What about vincent van gogh? etc.. Go forward 100 years and nobody will bat an eyelid at 20 years. The films people remember him for were especially loved and they were played regularly on TV for years after their release. It was also during the prime time of his career... common for it to taper off a bit esp as people age / obstacles happen in life. Many many people grew up or raised their kids around his films. Children were entertained, imaginations were captured, parents nodded in approval and laughter. That gives him a simply massive fanbase regardless of his other movies or appearances... which were also quite good, even as small roles or voices. Can't think of a single one I didn't enjoy seeing him in. Not going to bother going through them.
We didn't know him personally and to us he's just an entertainer we saw on TV or at the movies. It's all coming from a recorded (timeless) form and we're able to revisit it at any time.. it's like he never died to us except there will be no more movies. If you really want to find some meaningful comments about him then talk to his daughter, family, close friends and see what kind of real raw talent he had. You know, people who actually knew him. The absolute max we can say is RIP and that we liked his work. Rest is all BS. |

I'm from the Bay Area and Robin Williams used to own one of the most expensive houses in San Francisco up top on Divisadero street around there. 30-50 million dollar house. Apparently he moved to Marin though so if he sold the sf house maybe he was having money problems.
You would figure his residuals alone would have him and any number of wives set for life though. |

Anyone know if the cuts on his wrists were a suicide attempt or just cutting. Apparently he made some superficial cuts before hanging himself with a belt. What a nasty way to go. |
