Hi!
I was wondering if anybody here has been around in Europe and played?
Can someone recommend some places?
Also, is it so that every tournament event also have some good cashgames going as well?
Been looking at 2+2 as well, but couldnt find any good threads.
Any answers posted is golden! Thanks y0000
ALSO, not sure where to post it, so you are free to move it to another forum if its wrong |

The level of competition in resorts in southern France is obviously terrible but the rake is 4% no cap! |

I have also heard that the rake is 4% uncapped! That is just crazy, they would have to be terribad for anyone to make money |

The (official) games in Hungary are also raked a shitton.
There are microstakes games (50-50 HUF, which is like, 0.2-0.25 cents lol) raked at 10%, capped at 2000 (40 bb, that's insane!) to supposedly "high" stakes games (500-500, raked at 3%, capped at 3000, so 6 bb), with 100-100 (~6-8% rake, capped at 2500) and 100-200 (5% rake, capped at 3000 also) games inbetween. This is one exact cardroom from Budapest, but they're pretty similar all across the country.
The 50-50 is obviously unplayable, the rest you can actually win money at, due to two reasons:
#1 everyone is TERRIBLE. I mean, really, really bad. You can't imagine how bad. Even the winning regs, and the most of the best regs are bad and wouldn't survive a month online. I know I'm terrible also and I'm one of the best players to ever play there.
#2 even though the buy-ins are capped, they're deep (200 bb for 500-500, 300 bb for 100-100, 250 bb for 100/200), and you can get chips to match the highest stack at the table. And usually everyone (including most dealers) lets you buy in even deeper.
This obviously leads to big pots if the table is good, and with the capped rake and the aforementioned terrible players, you can make bank. At least for hungarian standards
Smoking is prohibited in all inside areas in Hungary now, has been for a few years, which is a big plus imo.
I've only ever been on to play live poker elsewhere in Wien (Austria), and only in the Montesino cardroom. From what I've heard, it's the place with the most players, tables and action. They spread from 1/1 up to 10/20 EUR regularly, and I think there are very high stakes games as well occasionally. Also, there's FL Stud almost always if you're interested. I've been there twice, in the evening / night, and I think there has been at least 3 PLO tables on both occasions from 2/2 up to very high

Thanks, that was some good info!
Where in Hungary are you playing? What city?
How are the games in Austria? I have heard that they are good and bad, OBV player dependent, but what is your opinion in general? |

I only play in private games now, as I started to work as a dealer 6 months back after finishing school. Wanted an inside look at the industry, because I plan to have my own such enterprise, should I succeed financially in life somehow. And I think the experience gained now could be useful.
It's in the capital, btw. Budapest. Called "Universum Poker Klub" (www.universumpoker.sk).
To be honest, the place is pretty scummy, lots of lowlifes around. But the only rival (legal) available poker room (for the moment that is, one or two seems to open and close at a whim all the time) is pretty deserted as far as action goes. Especially now that summer is here (that would be Euro Poker Klub (they only have a facebook page afaik).
I think the Austrian games were pretty soft too. Decent field tourneys all the time (sometimes even cross-country events, or cross-casino events, organized neatly with TONS of entrants. Like, you could play Day 1 of the tourney in either 3 cardrooms of Wien). I've played one rebuy tourney in the Montesino when I first visited, and the field seemed lolsoft. 300+ entrants as well. I think I busted vs an UTG tiltshove (with 82cc or smth lol :D ), an A7o calling MP ( :D ), and me holding KK. Just to give you a general idea.
The cash games are easy too - major difference compared to what I got used to in the Hungarian live games were the (sometimes really) shallow stacks. IIRC, on 1/1 EUR, the max buy-in was 100 bb, so you had a bunch of ppl sitting on 20-40 euro stacks. Could definitely be a big plus for a seasoned 100 bb tables online grinder.
The rake is murder in small pots, as 1 EUR gets taken from each flop automatically, but it's added to the jackpot pool. There's a bunch of shit you can win, including BBJ and whatnot (I almost hit one, I was all-in with top set JJxx vs a broadway + NFD, and if I had hit my quads on the river, he would've hit the royal flush. That would've paid nicely. Alas, I "only" filled up and scooped, so whatever). I don't have exact numbers, but I think it's 0 up to 15 EUR, 1 from 15 to 30, 2 from 30-50, etc. This is only 1-1, I don't have info on the rest. It's manageable, although the shallow stacks might hinder your progress. |

HI guys , my first post. I check time to time liquidpoker and think it is pretty decent.
From my experience i think you can find poker almost everywhere around Europe , but most reasonable places with high chances to find decent games are England ( London especially), Spain and maybe Austria. Also a good option is just to follow main tourney events and go there to play cash games .Many live regs just do that and you can find always good action.
London, probalby the best option, lot of stuff going there . I played just donkaments , but from what i saw and heard from friends who live and play poker there action is pretty decent with good deep stack poker.
Spain , it is one of the my favorite poker destination in Europe .I have played in Gran Madrid casino , although the casino is a bit far away from the city , it is a pretty nice casino with some decent games 2-4 and 4-8 NHL and 5 -10 omaha . Also rake is one of the best in Spian, but keep in mind rake everywhere in Spain is high something like 4, 5% 10-20 euro cap, but games are still good enough
Other place is Barcelona obv, I ve been there just for tourney donkaments , but everytime there is pretty good cash game action,so i quess they have games running through all the year.Valencia is also other option, especially if you are looking for the smaller games like 1-2 or 2-4 .Casino there is pretty nice and Valencia is quite cheaper than Madrid and Barcelona. The last place in Spain i am gonna mention is Marbella , pretty nice place ! They have two casinos , i played only at the one in Puerto Banus . Games were so hot , but is was during WPT ,Estrellas and UKPT festivals and from what i understood they dont run many games outside of the festivals. The second casino is Torrequebrada. I never been there, but heard they have more games but i can not confirm that.
Last thing to say about spanish poker is very useful to know a little spanish even a few words can help a lot ! Also keep in mind spanish palyers tend to play kind of short stack poker. not all of them but it is comman to see a player buying it for 20or 30 bb bahh !
I also tried the poker in northen Cyprus , casino MERIT .Very nice place . They run some very good cash games through tourney festivals , but rake is ridiculous 3% uncaaped . There are many bad players , iam not sure is it worth playing over long run
That is from me . Keep in mind my info is from 2013 but i doubt things changed much
Cheers ! |

The best place to play live games is where EPT currently is, basically.
There is a ton of players that go around EPTs and play cash games in casinos during the tournament festival takes place - the amount of bad and recreational players is through the roof.
