I was at the gym, patting myself on the back for finally reaching 135 lbs, from around 95 lbs when i first started working out.

As i was getting the metaphorical lotion to begin said self masturbatory congratulations and victory lap, this young old man, around 50 i'd say asks if i needed a spot.

i was confused. didn't this guy just see me lift 135? can't he tell i weigh 145? bro thats like 99% of my body weight with less than a month training what is this mad man talking about.

he said i should try 185.

(lol) (fucking idiot. i fucking hate old people) i told myself in my head. first they think they know something about poker. then they think they know something about life and job seeking. and now they think they know something about weight training. does this asshole know how much bro science i've read over the years?

anyway he seems pretty adamant about not letting me get to the lockers and therefore not letting me get to work.

hating myself and understanding a life time of giving into the demands of older people (my korean family + korean elders) i now had to humor old white fucks too.

so i fucking put the extra 25lbs weights on and....lifted....3 reps...all my strength...i lay there on the bench, exhausted and at awe of what my body was able to do...wat the fuck have i been doing all this time?...is this the way to train?...are you supposed to face death when working out?...we took off 5 pounds from each side....another 5 reps.....we took off another 5 pounds from each side....6 reps...

i took a shower, changed into work clothes and went with my day knowing a chilean body building poker online personality was smiling proudly somewhere on the internetz

Haha, respecting your elders finally pays off, huh.

Hm.. Off-suite socks..

in my culture respecting your elders is prob one of the most deeply respected and regarded "laws"

and there is a lot of honor and duty in upholding this view, but sometimes it's just so agonizing. the way the world works is so different back when they got a job. its much more than going to college. it's more than doing 2 years of service in the army/navy.

this also reminded me of working out with the UF football team ages ago. But apparently i forgot how fucking intense it is on a daily basis. I think i took it for granted or simply forgot or was desensitized

Old men often offer to spot young guys at the gym so they can mentally save the action and position in their brain of tea bagging you. It's akin to offering to spot a hot chick with big breasts at the gym.

1. Tell us what lift it is at the beginning.

2. If you're only benching 135 pounds and been going to the gym for 1 month. You should probably be giving everyones advice at least some level of respect.

3. Bench is basically the one lift where you actually need a spotter pretty badly.

4. Do squat and deadlifts if you're not already.

Most advice is partially correct and partially wrong, separate the two and everyone has something to teach you.

I think a lot of people really underestimate the amount of food you need to eat to gain significant mass. I think Hugh Jackman's diet was a great example. Something like 10 prepared meals per day consisting of mostly things like chicken breast and veggies. He had a chef to make it, but he's basically eating every 2 hours all day long. The food wasnt anything fancy, a few light seasonings here or there but nothing you couldnt do yourself, save the the time and cost of preparing it all. Prepare to have your food budget quadruple when you start working out.

bye now

this.

ive been tinkering with my diet/exercise lately and have found it really difficult to have a 40:30:30 calorie ratio for protein:fat:carb. the answer? CHICKEN. lots and lots of chicken.

my new diet:
-3-4 eggs made with coconut oil, 1 slice cheese, some turkey jerky
-chicken+green beans
-protein shake
-chicken+green beans
-chicken+green beans
-protein shake
-chicken+green beans
-3-4 eggs/cheese/turkey jerky

this gets me to roughly 3000-3300 calories with about a 40-35-25 ratio for protein-fat-carb. im getting almost all my carbs from bananas/berries in the protein shakes. i think i should probably cut down to 1 protein shake and add in some brown rice with the chicken+green beans and i can likely make each meal a little bigger. but whatever, i dont need to get into the nitty gritty minutia details like bodybuilders, im just trying to get a little ripped and in better shape

inspiring video for you guys:

i have no desire to get HUGE, but im tired of working out, eating healthy and having a 90-95th percentile body. this day in the life video gave me a really good idea of what it takes to push myself into the 95-99 range. kai greene is very inspirational.

A word of advice..... chicken sucks if you eat it all the time. Total burnout on a health kick. Chicken is hard to make to taste good. When you buy it from the store it is super bland and shitty unless you take a good prep time and know how to cook it right. Eat steak, fish, or turkey or something just as often, much more satiating and yummy.

youre definitely right about that, but steak/fish have so much more fat and i already eat tons of fat with eggs/coconuts that it throws my ratios off a bunch. eat a bunch of turkey too. basically i eat fish 2-3x a week and steak 1-2x a week, turkey jerky every day and chicken 2-3x a day. def gets kinda boring, but i wanted to see if i kept my ratios pretty strict for a while if there would be big results. ill probably go back to just eating everything soon

yeah i was about to say, i agree with bigrob but i think the whole point is that people that strict about their diet only care about the macros they consume, they would eat dogshit 5x/day if it had the right macros.
