rotten tomatoes gives it 90%
imdb gives it 8.2
thats exceptional ratings, not very average

Thought it was pretty good... They managed to make a badass female action character who DIDN'T act like a complete dickwad to everyone, which is rare. Ending wasn't the strongest part of the movie, but not terrible. The army was a little bit over the top in their incredulity towards the whole time travel thing... I mean they had some pretty convincing factoids.

I thought they were going to go all cliche + Show Spoiler +

, but they side stepped it nicely.

Overall thought it was decent enough, but I like sci-fi, and I like Bill Paxton lol

Nonstop is a 7.1 on IMDB.

Nonstop is the worst fucking movie I have ever watched.

When it comes to modern movies I dont think the IMDB rating means that much, feels very inflated.

Pacific Rim got a 7.1 on IMDB. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either. It bombed in America, but did well outside of America. They're supposed to make a second movie.

Under each movie rating on IMDB, there's a "Users" button you can push, which brings up a page like this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1663662/ratings?ref_=tt_ov_rt
It gives various stats on who voted and stuff.

Have you seen....Taken 2??? That shit was way worse for me. Either you're completely exaggerating because you felt insulted by the obvious plot holes leading to a fairly ridiculous ending that are to be expected in a Liam Neeson action movie set entirely on a plane or I'm not sure you've watched that many movies if that's the worst you ever saw. I just hope you didn't walk into that movie expecting Schindler's List or some shit

Certainly right about IMDB ratings being inflated though...even though it's obviously a completely subjective thing. The talk about imdb ratings made me look up Taken 2. It is sitting on a 6.3. Makes me wonder what movies get below a 5

Actually I've only seen Taken 1. I didn't know anything about Nonstop before I walked in except that it had Liam Neeson in it, didn't even know the genre (watched it with my girlfriend).

The reason I fucking HATE Nonstop is the motivation behind this hijack attempt... It just made NO FUCKING SENSE. I felt like I was suddenly watching a parody or something. The rest of the movie is merely bog standard action, but as soon as the two villains reveal themselves...... man, there are not enough adjectives in the english language to describe just how much of a fucking nosedive the plot took upon the two villains opening their mouths.

Whomever wrote the dialogue for those two characters should be fired. Out of a cannon. Into the sun.

I can only assume they had a completely different plot planned, but that it was deemed too incendiary/complicated/something and this was the last minute replacement written by an interning chimpanzee.

From a technical standpoint (quality of acting, music, visuals, atmosphere etc) I have of course seen far worse, but I can't think of a single movie that pissed me off more than this one.

I can relate to that because in my example, taken 2, there's a scene where his daughter is running on rooftops chucking grenades while being shot at...so that liam can figure out where they are while being held prisoner based on the explosion sounds or some shit. But it wasn't just one scene...almost the entire movie. Whereas without expecting much, I was able to at least mostly enjoy the build up in nonstop. The reveal and motivation was ridiculous of course but it happens quite late in the movie...not to mention a plausible ending tying everything together without holes given the plot (air Marshall is framed for murder and hijacking via cell phone on a flight) was always going to be really difficult I think.

Used to be a time (10 years?) when the people rating movies were film nerds mostly. Now its combo of 5 year olds, massive fanboy clubs, people who have no knowledge in films and most likely PR companies hired to artificially boost given movies on imdb. Look at top 100 movies and like 50% are movies 2005+, and bunch of poop that only appeals to small (but highly active on internet and technology in general) segments of the populations, like Batman's and LOTR, harry potter etc.

Yeah but that's what makes me hate the movie so much. It's like, the movie is being a nice, sociable human being, making all the right polite noises... then it spits right in your fucking face, kicks you in the balls and proceeds to teabag you with the inanity of this 'reveal'.

Any other reason except what was given would have been better. The villain being fucking Loki The Trickster would have made me less angry D:

SPOILER BELOW

Regarding the ending, when Cage kills the first blue alien he is reset back to some arbitrary point in time. I assume the same is true of the Omega, only because it is vastly superior/larger he is sent back even further through time, hence him preceding all other events. There must be some sort of quantum entanglement field of sorts (lol as if I know what that means) which enables the Omega to exist outside of time, hence when he dies he's dead for good, and that is why even though the entire day/week is reset, suddenly everyone is like "omg the aliens are all dead now".

bye now

Pretty sure movie companies do something to inflate the ratings on the major websites esp for big budget blockbusters, Godzilla for example had 9+ opening 2-3 days (good early reviews = lots of $$ opening weekend), it eventually dropped to 7.x. It seems like the real user reviews are being averaged with a giant series of early 10s. real rating is prob at least 1-2 full point(s) lower then the given on most movies. It eventually converages to approximatley the real number after 200k reviews or so but most films will never reach that figure.
There are a lot of incentives for distribution companies to inflate these numbers as it will mean many more millions of $$ in gross, there are almost certainly companies that do this for money.

every hollywood idea has been done. there aren't that many new types of film. but you can still make a decent living, the industry always has new faces and newborns to entertain.

i remember watching the movie "Adaptation" with Nicholas Cage and I thought it was the worst movie I ever saw. To this day, I hold this experience against one of my closest friends/ex roommates. But regardless it was a movie, a meta movie, that critics fell in love with because it was just so new.

Iono even when I think about tv/movies like The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Inception, I'm just like would mainstream public or mainstream audience really appreciate that movie? Gotta supply the demand I guess.
