The best eSports scene I was ever around was the Quake scene. There were a lot of cool pro gamers in that scene and the majority of the best players were considered old school, so they were already between 21-30 years old, which meant they were more mature and weren't as childish as some of the gamers you'd see in games like Counter Strike and Warcraft. There were also a lot of top Quake players from USA back in the day, which usually isn't the case with most eSport games, even today.
Also, there's a Quake eSports documentary called "FRAG," which came out 4+ years ago. I'm sure you can find it somewhere on the internet, but if not, send me a PM and I can upload it somewhere for you.

Okay thanks for link, I bet I will like it a lot, when I was a kid I tried to become as good as I could for awhile in sc/bw, but never managed to be good enough, but sacrificed everything around it, and I was in a family that really didn't respect gaming, and I live in Norway, so pretty severe stigma from almost anyone over 30+, well everyone over 30+ at that time lol.

When I think about it, I didn't really try to become a pro gamer, I just wanted to master it, and get as good as I could lol.
Obsessed, more like it lol.

Just got done with it, it was entertaining, liked that you could follow it without knowing anything of Dota, which was nice.
I put it on my fb, and I thought about it when I was at the toilet, only one thing I found that I could put my fingers on. The speech about "these gamers" blablabla, are the blablabal" and in the future...
Nope, these gamers are enjoying the fruits of people who played any game to mastery before they could get any reward, studied it, stayed up all night listening to some korean friendly enough to try and translate into shitty english what they saw through radio etc. It was paved a decade earlier or so!!
But still, best esports documentary I've seen xD

I can run a list with tons of reasons but mostly due to no ladder and balances took forever to happen back then.
Also: LoL is about teamfights and objectives while Dota is far more combo/farm oriented. Both have different playstyles, dont say stuff like "if you do play one you cant play the other".
yes and LoL having a static playstyle makes it a bore

This is the documentary I mentioned earlier in the thread. I wasn't aware it was on YouTube.

Great documentary saw it at TI3 at Benaroya Hall which was quite the experience. Still nothing beats the Smash Brothers Documentary for me. I'm glad there's some really good documentaries about esports out now.

Didn't think I'd like it as much as I did. I do believe there are some parts that if you aren't a gamer at all are gonna seem a bit boring, even I almost got bored once or twice but overall it was pretty cool. I specially loved that I was actually rooting for one of these guys to win it all, my favourite was the Singapore guy because his family was so fricking unsupportive even making him feel shame and like a failure and that made me relate to him more, although his whole ex thing at the end I didn't like but whatever.
I'm not sure how to feel about them making the Chinese players look like the "bad guys". They could easily have looked into their own lives and struggles too instead of picturing them like mindless robots and all about win win win and then we would have even more people to cheer on or not, in any case we decide but it kinda felt like they made that choice for us.
