and I learned that giving is better than receiving.
That sentence is usually seen in an altruistic perspective but the mafia may have it right. Favors.You do favors for others and they feel obligated to you. That is why you should never accept favors from anyone. There is now an unwritten debt that you now owe that person.I rarely accept help from anyone unless I have already helped them.
Thats the payment to debt ratio that no one talks about.

i also wanted to share a few throwback picks from Party Poker pre UIGEA 2006.
I was playing 5-10 limit, haha
1. I had excellent bankroll management skills
2. Often Times I would cash out at midnight, and I would have the money in my bank account by 4am.
Now when I cash out, it takes week(s) , I get a check from a foreign country, I have to depoisit it via atm, pray that it clears, pray that the fraud department doesn't hound me. Boy have we progressed.

Some people are aggressive with favors. For example, you can go to a bar and one person picks up the bill, even insists on doing it. That person now can use it against you in the future, as if you are somehow indebted to them in some way. |

Extorting and intimidating are forms of manipulation...
I believe there is a law of giving > receiving, we just haven't uncovered all of the biological and other physical facts regarding the writing itself and how it comes to feel like it does to receive and to give as a human being... At least, the revelation is not available in a just-the-facts sort of way.
One idea which pops to mind is that a thing could never be "greater than the sum of its parts" inside of a replicating (fractal) system unless the general rule is that each generational layer of the system gives more than it receives. For instance, how could the seed of a plant sprout unless each of the cells in it put more effort into reproduction(giving away inputted energy) than in sustaining(fruitlessly burning energy) themselves.
Reproduction just happens at a wider range of levels for humans, from babymaking to complex behaviors such as practicing scientism or naturalism. |
