Hi, I've been trying some other games lately and had troubles trying to beat or not lose at some games. Lets make a review and discuss a bit. This is what I found:

Stud hi/lo 6-8 players: Learnt to play with Ray Zee book and then used simulations to study lot of game lines. Very fishy 2/4 and below, but so many pots are inflated and splited that I feel that rake kills. Not very fishy action 3/6+

2-7 TD 5-6 players: Since there's no book, no simulators avalaibe, I manually studied almost every line of the game vs reasonable plays. Same, but every mistake your opponent makes increase you equity in about 10% and to beat the 3% rake you have to face an opponent making a mistake 1 every 3 pots you play and you need a lot of time to figure out if they are playing bad enough 2/4+. Also, its an easy to tilt game

LO8 3+ players: Cant understand the game. I feel I need infinite experience to study every line and lot of time to understand every unknown player. Games looks hyper fishy but I see lot of split pots and close equities

Thanks in advance for any comments. Correct me in everything you see wrong

Maybe I have to start playing only if there's fish (not weak regulars)

Rake indeed kills at stud8 and O8. It's significantly worse than regular limit holdem due to more showdowns. It's still beatable at mid stakes but for very small winrates (.5 to 1 BB/100).

At triple draw you can achieve winrates better than holdem. Its a high variance game though. You need a pretty large sample size to get an accurate winrate.

A friend of mine plays mid-high stakes L08 and explained to me a lot of the skills required. Basically yes, a lot of split pots so the skill really comes down to controlling pot sizes when involved in a hand. Eg. If you can only win half the pot you want to keep the pot smaller and if you have a split and a chance to improve to a scoop then you need to increase the pot size. Many amateurs do not consider both current hand equity and chance to improve, so will put in a lot of money with hands that chop 90% of the time but get scooped the other 10% (effectively a -ev play). Because so many chopped pots you are showing down a lot of the time so the standard deviation from your expectation is quite high. Also if there is any chance at being quartered your hand sucks.
