Uhh, D3's story is ROFL bad. Are you serious? |
Well its definitelly forced and a stepdown from D2 but it counts with 2 "precuels" so its a thicker story and its easier to build on it while Path of Exhile is new and has no cinematics so its hard to follow the story specially since most people just skip many of the dialogs.
So I enjoyed the story way less than in the Diablo games, but the game itself is better than Diablo 3
| Not even just compared to D1 or D2, the story is just fucking shit, like terrible D list hollywood horror movie bad. |

For those interested btw, they just came out with a huge patch which involves seasons (like in D2) and more endplay in greater rifts and legendary gems. Good stuff. |

D3 story is on par with D2 story wise. I think a lot of you guys just have a childhood crush with D2. I think ever since they added adventure mode / class specific drops, D3 now > D2. Since D2 was mostly just Baal runs / cow runs. D3 is way more dynamic after all the patches, teenage nostalgia is a powerful thing. It's common to think the games / movies / music people listened to in their teens is way better then anything out today |

^ Nja, i think ur just halfway right, compared to what was out on the marked then (all kinds of entertainment), it poopt on everything except bw, by miles.
Things improve, get better, more awesome, today it needs to compare with all the other entertainment out there, that's why it's seen as a bit poop. |

Hard to imagine what other people see and feel when they play games, but It'd not list d3 on my top 100 list, but D2, I have on my top 10, and pretty high up there.
Same as, if Starwars came out today, it'd be steaming pile of shit, and most people would never hear or bother to watch it. Have to measure it with that's up at the time. |

i think the reason D3 or SC2 aren't liked for their story is it's such a cliche lowest common denominator storyline. like i remember in BW fenix dies and raynor vows to kill her but SC2 comes along and it's all this elementary school save kerrigan shit? i remember the feeling when you beat BW and are looking at the epilogue screen or the feeling the first time you killed diablo or beat X difficulty. and then the replay value, even if the plot is bad on the new games (an easy litmus for me is look at the michael bay cutscenes of the new games) what's the excuse for gameplay that's not totally captivating and addictive? now it's like pay your $60 please and we'll punch your killed diablo again timecard. if you make the third game in a franchise, even if it's awesome to play and has a plot that doesn't make you vomit, i know inevitably there will be self-similarities but it's too cliche to be serious. it is nearing EA territory for me; there isn't enough risk in D3 or SC2's design, they're crafted finely but not cleverly. really a step backwards and i wonder what room blizzard has left in these franchises to do something magical again. |

Yea.
I believe the lackluster story quality in Blizzard sequels lately is due to the fact that they now decide to make a game based on a selection of their previous titles. The storywriters don't as necesarily feel like they have any essential need to dig deep and make something really interesting -- plus that entails the risk of there being something new that consumers don't relate with like was hoped. |

I'd reason all of the above ( and im speculating here) with the fact that they supposedly drew out all of their best staff members to work on the TITAN project.
Considering WoW's overall market share is falling progressively, and the this Warlords Of Draenor expansion should supposedly be the last one, they're betting all on TITAN which should be the next new epic shit which should change the game world ( again a MMORPG though ). Plus the generation that grew up with those games is practically gone, kids these days dont really give a fuck that much about story as long as the game is somewhat addictive and flashy. They cant target 25yo+ people as the main market since the 25yos wont spend 12hrs/day to grind
I'd also say that this forum is living in the past when it comes to games, I'll never bring back the fun i had grinding Diablo 2, nor as i played warcraft 3 competitively and same counts for most of you as tlnet s a large BW community, but comparing those times to now is just unfair. |
