My cell phone contract is almost up, was thinking about getting the HTC One or S4, does anyone know if an unlocked phone from the states would work in Canada??? |

Depends on your carrier and the original carrier of the phone (because of the antenna bands) but most of the times it will as the major US carriers use the same bands as the major Canadian carriers.
Basically check on your provider's site for what bands they need (especially if you want LTE)
Check the cellphone's original provider site to find out what bands their cells use
bam, profit! |

Unlocked phones = GSM Global System Mobile which means it takes a sim card. Rogers wireless in canada is sim cards.
If its not a sim card its a CDMA phone which requires a "flash" which in Canada... not sure which companies have the cdma technology.
Sprint, Verizon, Cricket, MetroPCS = CDMA
AT&T, T-Mobile, Simple Mobile, H20 = GSM |

I have done extensive research on this. I am in Canada and my shitty carrier is Fido and it is giving me a lot of problem. You can also get Rogers phone and they work on Fido.
Unlocked phones work on LTE. But make sure you get the LTE and not the HSPA phone. If u get either s4 or One from USA you are OK.
Who is your carrier? |

You just gotta compare the frequencies, avoid pure verizon band phones. For most part if it works on Att or tmobile or sprint it works in canada.
In all seriousness, if you are buying full price unlocked phone, why the hell are you buying a S4 or HTC one, get a fucking Nexus 4 and wait after May 15 |

That is like, so off for Canada...
CDMA phones have been gone forever. All carriers in Canada use SIM cards.
Bell and Telus (and by extension their sub brands Koodo, Virgin and Solo) who used CDMA up until like 4-5 years ago now share an HSPA network, which is based off the GSM protocols
Rogers and it's subbrands, Fido and Chatr, run a GSM network
Although all of these companies are now offering LTE in major cities
As I have said in my first post, what you need to check is the band frequency on the phone you buy, |
