----------

Prior to doing research, these are my gun-to-the-head picks for UFC on Fox 7.

• Henderson > Melendez (Clashing styles.)
• Cormier > Mir (I'll put Cormier in some parlays cuz he's too expensive for my liking. I think this has a good chance to go to decision. I'll also end up straight-betting Mir finishing ITD/Submission. Cormier's hands are being overrated to where people think he has massive power and can easily KO Mir.)
• Thomson > Diaz (Clashing styles.)
• Mein > Brown
• Larkin > Carmont (Hopefully Larkin has worked only on keeping it standing, cuz Carmon't striking is kinda bad, even though I used to think it was good for some reason. Carmont has that look to him where you think he'd be a killer, but that's just not the case.)
• Mendes > Elkins (Short notice fight for Elkins, and he's just not on Mendes' level atm.)
• Parke > Tuck
• Jury > Nijem
• Benavidez > Uyenoyama (Surprised this is so low on the FX card. Benavidez was on PPV for his last fight, which was a win.)
• Masvidal vs. Means (Need to go look at tape on Means, dunno if I seem him fight before.)
• Dillashaw > Viana (I think Viana will come out swinging with everything he has, just like in his last fight. Dillashaw just needs to dodge the first wave and then set up the take down after getting Viana's timing.
• Njokuani > Bowling (I like Bowling, but I think Njokuani will keep the distance nicely. Maybe a parlay on a prop bet for Bowling, cuz he does have power in his hands, but his striking is kinda limited imo.)
• Romero > Starks (Both Romero and Starks haven't fought for over a year, but Starks was terrible the last time I saw him. Romero was fed to Rafael Cavalcante in Strikeforce when he wasn't even on his level yet and only had 4 pro fights. The hype for Romero was his Olympic accomplishments. If the drop down in weightclass doesn't hurt Romero, I'll take his wrestling and sloppy heavy hands over Starks wrestling.)

Cant remember the last time i was so unexcited about a title fight at 155 or above.

For some reason i really dont care about that fight. One of the weaker FOX cards also.

Henderson > Melendez
Cormier > Mir
Diaz >Thomson
Mein > Brown

Poker chobo.

Calvacante was Romeros 3rd real MMA fight.
Michal Fijalka was his only real opponent.

Sascha Weinpolter is/was medicore even for local (german/austrian)competition
the fights vs Nikita Petrovs and Laszlo Eck were fake.
I know the guys who organized these fights.
It was very clear that they had no interest in fighting romero and would lose in the first round .. but the organizer wanted to attract local viewers by presenting an olympic wrestler and those opponents were willing to "fake" fight for low money.

So overall Romero only had 2 MMA fights before facing Calvacante.
Romero is pretty dangerous but this fight was far too early in his MMA career

Josh Thomson vs. Nate Diaz grappling competition from over 6 years ago.

Many people aren't aware that JT is a black belt in BJJ.

Forgive my nubness, but how did they determine that Nate won that? Seemed very close, is it just ref decides? or is there a scoring system

^ There's some scoring system. I'm not sure how it works in BJJ.

Either way, the match itself is pretty old.

JT is gonna be my biggest bet on this card. Already have $40 on him, just waiting for his prop to win by decision, to come out. I'll probably do at least $100 on him altogether, since his straight line is +170 right now.

didnt watch whole match but scoring system is basically like this: you get points for takedowns (2), sweeps (2), passes to side control (3), knee on belly position (3), getting mount (4) and getting back with both hooks in (4). for good submission attempts you get advantage points which are used as a tiebreaker if the points are equal. so first you check who has more points, then you check who has more advantages, and after that the ref just makes a decision on who he thinks won the match if both of those are tied.

thats why you see guys pulling guard so often, cause if you pull guard you dont give up any points for a takedown and dont waste time fighting for one or trying to fight them off. but whats annoying is this: suppose someone pulls guard, gets a deep triangle attempt, barely misses (1 advantage), switches to armbar, almost gets it (2 advantages) gets his guard passed and guy holds side control for a few seconds (3 points), guy retains his guard, sweeps (2 points), gets on top and passes to half guard and the match ends, the guy with 2 submission attempts and a sweep loses 3-2 even though he controlled most of the match and had more relevant offense than his opponent just because a pass to side is worth more than subs or sweeps

Says the Brazilian.

Hugo's chance to win is by throwing wild bombs like he did in his last fight to earn his first ever KO. Dillashaw should get the take down pretty easily and win via guillotine, RnC, or decision.

I think there is some value on Frank Mir and Matt Brown. Still thinking...

I will bet on Henderson, Diaz, Benavides and Mendes in some parlays

Got a Mir fan at the gym to go 1:1 on $100. Cormier is going to shit on Mir.

We have now sunk to a depth at which restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men.
