This is actually a 0,5/1 hand (roughly) if I'd do the currency conversion. I just marked it as 1/2 for convenience's sake (I shaved off two decimals from the end of every number from here on out).

So, game is 1/2, no straddle is on, we're sitting about 600 deep. Winning a fair bit on this table.

We pick up Ad Kd UTG, and raise to 8
(I like sticking to standardish raise / 3bet sizes, sometimes switching to exploitable when I know my opponent in the hand [iso-ing droolers harder, so that I don't pick up too many stragglers]. Does any1 dislike this?)

I get 4 callers along the way (standard, loose passive live game). BB, who just sat down, this being literally his first hand at the table, 3-bets to 56 (yeah, that's pretty damn steep). BB is sitting with 500, we, as I said, cover.

Notes: BB is a regular at these games, one of the better ones I'd say. We haven't played much together (thus most of my info is hearsay, no real history / past big pots), as this is his main limit (I am taking shots lately, I still main 1/1). He is, as far as I can tell/know, a pretty competent, thinking player.

Judging by the fact that he just 3-bet my UTG raise (albeit it didn't look strong [it's pretty common to overbet your big hands pre around here, mine is somewhat disguised]) so hard, I'd say it's pretty likely that he has a monster, that is very rarely QQ. I'd even go so far as saying he turned his hand face-up here. Remember, he just sat down!

Anyway, after tanking pretty long, I ended up calling (Thoughts on this? How would you play it?), everyone else folded.

Flop comes: Qc 4d 2d

Villain thinks for a little while, then proceeds to bet 65, leaving around 380 behind.

Hero ?

I fold pre, and open MUCH bigger. As played i make it 180 or thereabouts.

make it 15 pre, i would fold pre but i'm a nit.

i would take pot odds and flat the flop since it's half pot. i think he has a very strong range, and raising won't really fold better.

you could be freerolling against AK, think if he has AK he will check turn.

I ended up raising to ~185 after quite some deliberation, to which villain immediately froze, murmured something along the lines of "You didn't hit a set of Queens on me, did you?", thought a bit, shook his head and folded KK face-up.

I'm still not convinced this was the best way to play this hand though, maybe should've folded pre. How deep are you looking to be to call an oversized 3-bet like this IP? And with what range? I mean, Villain is really narrow in this spot, I can play perfectly against his likely holdings regardless of whatever I choose to continue with.

if he's folding his nuthand after putting in 10% of your stack in pre +another reasonable amount of money post, effectively killing his equity, there is absolutely not anything wrong with raising, not to mention you're killing AK with a raise as well. Therefore, your postflop way of playing the hand is absolutely fine (and his fold is terrible by default as he's only losing to QQ and a possible slowplayed aces).

therefore pre is the only debatable street. however AKs is a premium hand which has reasonable equity vs everything which is not aces, and it's suited which adds to playability. Together with the fact that you have position in the hand, I find it hard to find a fold here vs anyone but the nittiest of the nits. If you're folding AK here, you're essentially very close to considering mucking kings pre in my opinion.

live fish are either hero folders or hero callers. This guy clearly is the former.
