Been trying to make an easy template for calculating EV in this spot in excel, and I can't get it to work out -__-
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/c...g56hz-dDR4TVhZajJBSGNreS1rTGlwelR4SXc
For one thing, if I increase my fold equity, somehow I'm losing more money... Could anyone help me out with the potential math or excel errors that are no doubt present?
I tried doing it by hand as well;
EV(SHOVE)=(0.05*34.5)+(.12*(0.32*70.2))+(0.24*(0.3*139.32))+(0.59*((0.2*88.05)+(0.3*69.12))-52.41
= 15.33518
But I have to be doing something wrong here --
(If anyone is wondering where I get the fold %s from, took a 30% co range (not 30%, customized - though I actually now realized I forgot to remove AA from it but that only changes things slightly and is not important in terms of creating a technically accurate equation, and then checked how much of that range could continue, first for the short stack, and then the halfstack, using a cold call range)

youre randomly using a bunch of SUM() at the start of ur formulas for no reason.. let's start with fixing that and see how things stand after
also i always nitpick this but fold equity doesnt mean % of the time they fold, fold equity is % of the time they fold * what u win when they fold (not a big problem just mislabelling) |

ok I had a look at ur sheet, looks like adding the useless SUM() doesnt really make any difference here.
The problem is your EV calc formula is wrong. You got the basic method right, to get overall EV of a shove u sum up (probability of each case * EV of that case) but you're working out the EV of the cases wrong because you're not subtracting the extra money you have to put into the pot for each case when they don't both fold.
For example EV of when we get HU vs V1 should be 0.32*70.2 - 17.85
I believe correct formula for EV(shove) should be
=B5*B4+(B6*(B9*B15-B2))+(B7*(B10*B16-B3))+(B8*((B11*B13-B2)+(B12*B14-(B3-B2)))) |

Also this sheet as it is now, isn't a good template for looking at this spot generally since V2 should basically always have different ranges, most of the time very different, depending on whether or not V1 got it in vs hero cb or not.
tho luckily this shouldnt be difficult to fix by adding just a little bit more stuff |

I always thought you had to add sum haha... I've been adding it anytime there's more than 2 fields interacting - excel noob >_<
Thanks so much, the number actually makes sense now. As for ranges being affected by the actions of a previous player, in this example obviously it doesnt matter too much since the SS is last to act, but it should just be a question of adding another field representing the range he gets in vs a bet and a call, and then changing how often it goes multiway based on what the new % is for when he gets it in over the other guy... I think? |

yeah.. and u have to make sure your 3way equity correctly represents your shape vs V1 and V2 overcall range, and also make some small appropriate change to the EV(shove) formula so youre using the numbers in the right fields for the part with the 3way case |
