i wrote a guide on stud probably 6 years ago where i basically paraphrased chip reese's super system section on the game, so I would say super system or just check for other books on it. but i gotta say, its one of my worst games nowadays so maybe you should avoid my advice!

you should probably try to learn another game if you have a choice. stud hi is the worst game ever

lol, why is it the worst game ever? And what's a good other game to learn?

cause the equities all run together and youre supposed to fold pretty infrequently and just mash buttons like a maniac.

heres my rankings of games you need to learn:
1. plo
2. nl
3. 2-7 triple draw
4. LHE
5. o8
6. stud8
...
422. 5 card draw
423. double flop 6 card elky
...
5621: 7 card stud

why is 2-7 in third place?

its a cool game that runs in virtually every mixed game lineup nowadays and its important because all the new variants of poker involve some form of it like badeucy, badacey, razzdacey all that weird shit. learning deuce and badugi are necessary if you want to play in live mixed rotations

Yeah if you're already a decent NL holdem player and you want to try mixed, it should be 8game as opposed to HORSE. If that's the case its infinitely more important to learn PLO first, triple draw second, and then just whatever else.

Why do you think that mcnasty? Do they play bigger than horse? if so what about on FTP where bigbet bb is 1/5 of limitgame BB instead of the 1/4 on stars

The best video site for learning mixed games is probably deuces cracked. Badugi is so much fun just started to play it for fun, but I don't think it runs that much higher.

Yeah PLO is still by far the most significant game on both sites even when your opponents don't play full and generally play nitty. NLHE is alone at second. Eight game is really just a trick to get horse players to play PLO. You dangle triple draw out there and they're hooked.

exactly.

back in 2009 i grinded some 8 game and got the feeling that in the midstakes games i was a tiny winner in o8, breakeven at LHE and 2-7, -1BB/100 in razz, -1.5BB/100 stud8, -2.5ishBB/100 stud, 4BB/100 in NL and like 15BB/100 in PLO. it was absurd to the point that i just stopped playing and started playing all PLO instead. im sure people have gotten a bit better at PLO and i probably cant breakeven vs good horse players in horse+2-7 anymore but its definitely easy to win in those games by specializing in PLO and being ok at everything else

Just found two great series on deucescracked, luck of the draw and from a donk to a stud.

not doubting (dauting? lol) what u say may be the case now but u can't begin posts with "back in 2009 I grinded some 8 game" then end said posts with "its definitely easy to win in those games..."

Hey daut, where's the best place to learn O8, stud8 and TD. Any good sites/resources?

I can at least assure you that the games were still soft up till Black Friday, but yeah, point taken.

The biggest problem though is volume. Its extremely difficult to play more than 3 tables of 8game concentration-wise and frequently the games you'll want won't even be running at all.
