LA's Daily Breeze is reporting (and now confirmed by other outlets) that director Tony Scott jumped to his death on Sunday from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island.
According to the Los Angeles County coroner's officials, Scott (68) climbed a fence on the south side of the bridge's apex and leapt off "without hesitation" around 12:30 p.m.
A suicide note was found inside Scott's black Toyota Prius, said U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Jennifer Osburn.
Scott is known for directing such films as Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II, Days of Thunder, The Last Boy Scout, True Romance, Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State, Spy Game, Man on Fire, Deja Vu, The Taking of Pelham 123 and most recently, Unstoppable.
Scott and his older brother, Ridley Scott, also produced films and such TV dramas as "Numb3rs" and "The Good Wife." The pair recently wrapped "Coma," a four-hour, two-night medical thriller starring Ellen Burstyn set for release next month on A&E. |

This is terribly sad. Such a great director. I don't understand why he jumped off a bridge instead of seeking assisted suicide...so many unanswered questions. |

because he could do it himself? pretty sure a majority of assisted suicide cases involve people who aren't able to commit the act on their own |

You're totally wrong on assisted suicide- you can end up screwed and die a very long and painful death if you're unable to act on your own. But if you are diagnosed with an incurable disease, it's fairly simple to set up and seems to be the most beautiful and humane way to go out. If you want to learn more on the subject, you should watch, "How to Die in Oregon". I guarantee you'll cry in that movie (only movie I've ever cried at). "You Don't Know Jack" is another good one that explores the timeline of assisted suicide. |

he should be stripped of his directing credits unless he used a studio approved bridge. |

Apparently he had inoperable brain cancer but I don't see why the nigga would jump off a bridge because of that. I would just start selling meth. |

jumping seems like a better way to go than slowly withering away
true romance is truly awesome, everyone who hasn't watched it should immediately torrent it in his memory
and then donate $5 to brain cancer research |

What are you talking about? How is he "totally wrong"? I think you misunderstood his post. He's saying that he thinks most people who seek physician-assisted suicide are people who have such things as ALS and locked-in syndrome and who are physically disabled and cannot kill themselves. Anyway, I don't know if that's true, I've seen a documentary about a guy with bipolar disorder who went for it.
Anyway, it's pretty clear why he jumped off a bridge if he had cancer instead of going that route... they wouldn't give him the shot right away, and he didn't want to live for a long time with the disease waiting for a painless death. If the bridge is high enough, it should be painless too. |
