steve and chris are two of my best friends. steve is half chinese, quarter mexican, quarter white and chris is korean. one night they went out with a few other friends to k-town in LA. they are at a restaurant and meet up with chris's cousin who is a hardcore korean. the restaurant has a bar area and steve says "hey there are some cute girls here lets go talk to them". chris's cousin shakes his head and says "no, i cant let you meet my people"
no offense to any koreans on the board, but they seem like the most racist/close minded group of people out there. i have a few really good korean friends and they refuse to date korean girls or hang out with korean people for the most part. its insane how much they try to close themselves off from anyone who isnt korean. i dont know if the same is true for koreans in korea (i suspect not), but theres at least one generation korean-americans that seem like pricks.
maybe its just like every other culture where there are pricks and good people, but it seems like a much higher percentage of racism/hatred for other cultures. it comes off as comparable to how white people in mississippi were in the 60s (and i guess kinda still are today).
my girlfriend is vietnamese, we live in orange county and eat at some asian restaurant probably 10 times a week. on average 6.5 of those are in vietnamese restaurants, 1 japanese, 1 chinese 1 thai .5 korean. since moving to california i feel like there have probably been 4-5 instances where i was discriminated against for being white. all of them at korean restaurants. and almost all of them by middle aged women. imagine what the number would have been if i was black. probably 5x that. koreans seem like they hate black people.
it seems like every family has one crazy generation and the following one either immerses itself in american culture and ends the bias or closes themself off like their parents want and continue the trend
am i just talking crazy here or do other people see what i see and get the same vibe?

I assumed anyone who knew about Asian culture would know how native Asians feel about blacks. Overall, Asians in Asia seem way more chill and relaxed in general, but there's always a bit of racism, which is usually talked about when the person is not there. I've never had poor service or been refused service for not being Asian, so I'm not sure how that feels, but I'm aware it goes on.
I have no idea how Korean-American's are for the most part, but I do know that all Asian's are click-ish in high school, which probably carries over to college, since they all enter college right after high school, and they continue the click-ish style in college and some areas of where I live.
I know some Asian-American's from states outside of California, and they seem pretty chill when they move here and don't give a fuck when compared to California Asian's, who seem more click-ish.
Forgot to mention: If you compare a Korean-American for example, with a Korean from Korea, you'll see a big difference. It's like this with most ethnic backgrounds in USA. That first generation who is born here gets all the negative influence that USA has to offer, especially in California. Maybe it has something to do with the hormone injected meat we're eating.
I think foreigners tend to stick with their own people when they come to USA, then that carries over to their children born in USA, which then forms clicks. |

Lol it was the hardest thing in the world to break into the korean group at my college. But damn some of those girls were fine. Also, korean girls are TERRIBLE at giving head, possibly the worst ethnicity group out there. |

Ah... this is gonna be a lengthy post... I'll have TLDRs and footnotes at the end.
First off, I think LA Korean culture is massively different from anywhere else... and probably more crazy.
The whole.. Keeping the blood pure thing is somewhat intriguing. I know that many older generations would like their children to marry another Korean. This is for numerous reasons. Some of these reasons aren't too uncommon even for whites. For example, I know that some white familes would not like their daughter to bring in a black husband. There's no logical reason behind that, they just don't want a black in the family. I'm sure the same family would not want their daughter to bring in say some Asian son-in-law either. So, that's just close mindness.
What you guys don't know is that Koreans are even discrimitory against their own people. And I'm not talking Asians hating Asians either, everyone knows that. Koreans hate Koreans, based on what part of Korea your family comes from. Which is completely ridiculous considering that South Korea is a small country that fits nicely in Lake Ontario. This kind of goes to show how close minded Korean people can be. There's quite a bit of regional hate between northern part of SK and southern part of SK. And for some odd reason, it's gotten worse now than ever...
There are also parents who are scared of all the horror stories they hear of mixed race marriages. High rate of divorce rate due to culture differences, and inaccessibilities to their grandkids. In Korean culture, grandparents and grandkids have a tight relationship. Then they hear of like how this foreign daughter-in-law has a tight control over how much time they can spend with their grandkids. My own parents are terrified of this. They tell me not to rob them of their joys in later parts of their lives.
Now, young people that reside outside of Korea behaving like this is fucking beyond me (like, your friend Chris' cousin). I think they're just stupid and have some sort of twisted patriotic pride of their blood. It's not too uncommon, all equally stupid.
Generall speaking, nations that has a longer history with foreign visitors would probably have more accepting attitude towards foreigners. For example, Japan is probably more cool with foreigners than Korea. And Korea is more cool with them than say, China. Dark skinned people are not as liked as say ... lighter skinned people, but that's not exclusive to just Asia. Pretty sure even black people have some likings over other light skinned blacks (Chappelle talks of this, and I had a friend who was a black model that would say other light skinned black girls were picked over her for jobs and such).
Korea is supposed to not like black people because they have a bad rep during the Korean War, when black soldiers came to Korea, fucked a lot of our women then left the country. Kids who grew up as half Korean/half blacks had a rough time. But that's sort of bullshit since white soldiers did the same thing and the image with whites were clean until recently, when idiot losers come to Korea to teach English and fuck around a lot. I believe Japan is the only nation in Asia where they have black celebrities shown on national television. We have no black entertainers in Korea. But we have talkshows that has tens of pretty white girls who speak poor Korean and share their shitty opinions about stuff. Nobody makes any stink about this either, it's the norm in that damn country.
In general, I think any nation where media has too much power breeds crazy and illogical behaviours as the norm. I mean, I used to live in Korea drinking from the same well. And things looked normal then. But I see how insane it is over there now, and how crazy my cousins seem with their thinking process. This must be how Euros feel about US.
Asian cliques. I think a lot of people think Asians are like super elitist and shit because they only hang out with other Asians. I think this has a lot to do with how easy you can connect with other sons and daughters of immigrants of same culture. And it happens naturally because a lot of Koreans are very religious and they go to churches on weekends which are all Koreans. And who do you meet there? Kids of your age that go through the same shit that you do. A lot of second gen and 1.5gen Koreans also feel little awkward in American society because they aren't "white" enough nor "Korean" enough to fit into either cultures. So the second gens and 1.5gen usually end up hanging out with each other. My brother is a classic case of this where all of his friends were church friends that pretty much grew up together.
TLDR/Footnotes:
-Older Koreans being racist is same as old rednecks being ignorant
-Young people who do this are probably just stupid and have illogical blood pride, no different than a young black man saying "BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL"
-Asian cliques are a cultural thing

Just out of curiosity, do you think some of this might be due to the fact that a white/korean baby is more likely to "look korean" than a black/korean baby?
I remember some documentary on Muhammad Ali I saw where later the media was trying to paint him as "racist" for saying he would only date/marry a black woman. He said something to the effect of "No I'm not a racist in the sense that I judge people on the basis of their skin color, but for myself and my children I simply want to have children that look like me. Nothing more nothing less, maybe it's egotistical or vain but my personal decision is to try and have children who look like me so think what you want of that"
That's not a direct quote but the basic gist of what he was saying. I personally don't think it's fair to consider someone racist for preferring to date people who look similar to themselves, and when you live in a far more homogenous society than we do in North America I'd imagine you may feel even more pressured to have your children looking more like everyone else when they are in school and all to avoid being the one kid in class who looks different. |

And this is obviously a big factor as well. Despite growing up in an area with many Jewish, Black and German/English white people, pretty much every single childhood friend I had was either French, Irish or Italian. Why?
Catholic Church.
It's just less noticeable to most people when a 'clique' of white people is all Catholic or all Baptist so I think a lot of people don't even recognize these white cliques. Probably the same way I wouldn't differentiate a clique of Chinese youth being different than a clique of Korean youth. |

I don't think so. The natural Korean features aren't considered very beautiful in Korea. Like, Western society thinks Lucy Liu is like one of the sexist woman alive. Ask your Asian friend how he thinks of her, prob not that hot. Ever heard of Mirror's Edge? It features a Mulan-lookin' heroine, and it didn't get much love from Japan. The slanted eyes, yellow/green skin, flat face.. etc. These are all Asian features that aren't very liked in Asia. This is why the idol culture is so big in Asia I think. It features "beautiful" Asians that practically has no Asian features, but "western beauty features" like light/pale skin, big eyes, dyed hair, blue contact lenses etc. It's basically Asians that look like white people.
If anything, race mixing fixes a lot of ugly Asian features. I'm sure a lot of you can attest to how beautiful asian/black mix are, if you have ever met any. They're often very beautiful people. It's just.. world isn't fair for darker people, that's all.
I'm sure things are much better now than it used to be as far as mistreatment of mixed kids go. It may be considered something "cool" by now. It used to be "shameful" before since a lot of these kids were bastards. |

Cool that this is getting kind of known outside of my immediate circles. I've known Steve "the party animal" since I was a kid (he and his brother were close friends w/ my brother and I).
Have like absolutely zero interest in watching this though lawl |
