Defrag what specific judo decision are you talking about? |
| | Judo is a sport of leverage, strength, tactics and cunning. These attributes can appear to the uninitiated to be two people attempting to grab each other, without success, for five minutes. And then when no points are scored, they try to grab each other for another three minutes of overtime.
One of these gripping contests — the men's quarterfinals at 66 kg — has become the source of international indignation over a perceived injustice. But with the sport of Judo, an apparently firm set of circumstances can flip in an instant.
International media, or really, the international media that pays any attention to Judo, has been condemnatory in its coverage of the result in the quarterfinal match between Masashi Ebinuma of Japan and Cho Jun-Ho of South Korea.
The judges on the mat awarded the decision to Cho — but then they were called over by sideline officials. After a brief consultation, Ebinuma was awarded the victory.
Of that reversal, The Japan Times wrote, "In what looked like a parody of The Three Stooges, the three judges then overturned their initial ruling after a short conference." And keep in mind, the Japanese fighter won the bout. |

Can you explain it? For us who don't understand fencing rules. |
not much to explain, you have a sword and you need to hit second person to score a point
the thing is, Korean woman only needed to make it a draw to win, and as she was leading 5:4, German made the hit and it was a draw at 5:5(meaning Kor still wins) with only 1 second left on the clock. What you can see on the video is that the judges let the German woman make 4 separate attack attempts in that 1s left of time, as she finally made the hit to win 6:5 and the timer reached 0.
*watch the video from 2:07.

years ago i practiced fencing for a while, i dont remember well but afaik there are 3 types of swords and depending on what type of sword you use is the style of combat, also there are other things to consider i think, like the positions or moves you are allowed to do, but yes basicly is that, a sword and hit the opponent.
Also in the other sports, i dont know if it was unfair, but from what i have read it doesnt look like, i mean they reviewed videos and changed decissions that were probably a mistake.
The most stupid thing that i have read is the Arabian judo woman that its not going to participate if they dont allow her to use the hiyab. |

What was a farce in this judo decision was the way it was handled, not the decision itself. |

Eight female badminton doubles players were disqualified Wednesday from the London Olympics after trying to lose matches to receive a more favorable place in the tournament.
The Badminton World Federation announced its ruling after investigating two teams from South Korea and one each from China and Indonesia. It punished them for "not using one's best efforts to win a match" and "conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly abusive or detrimental to the sport" in matches Tuesday night.
"We applaud the federation for having taken swift and decisive action," IOC spokesman Mark Adams told The Associated Press. "Such behavior is incompatible with the Olympic values." |

Quarter final of judo up to 66kg men, Japan vs Korea, Jap guy Masashi Ebinuma is current world champion, they awarded the win to Korean guy (all 3 judges ruled same way) when they ended the fight, then changed the decision under the pressure from International Judo Committee or w/e its called and Ebinuma was awarded the victory. |

Too bad they didn't have this rule in WCG. Koreans always lost matches on purpose so they could always end up as the final 3 in Starcraft 1. |

Chinese diver Wu Minxia took gold in the 3m synchronized springboard in London this week, becoming the first woman in history to win three consecutive Olympic golds.
But shortly after she finished competing, Minxia’s father reinforced China’s win-at-any-cost mentality when he dropped a couple of bombshells on his daughter via theShanghai Morning Post: Both her grandparents had died over a year ago, and her mother had battled breast cancer for eight years.
Wu called us after her grandmother died, I gritted my teeth and told her: “Everything’s fine, there aren’t any problems.”
Minxia’s parents found such lies were “essential” to ensure their daughter could keep focused on her training. She’d left home at 16 to live at a government-sponsored diving facility.
We never talk about family matters with our daughter. We accepted a long time ago that she doesn’t belong entirely to us. I don’t even dare to think about things like enjoying family happiness.

The Olympics willing to give a "special medal" to her is basically admitting they are wrong, but aren't going to do anything about it. |
