I like what the olympics represent, a time for all differences to be put aside and ppl come together in peace. If only that still occurred
i usually watch the events but just because they are sporting events that are on and i always default watch sports |

horse events and stuff are ROFL tho, wtf, I should say I like the showcase of human athleticism
k but I admit I've watched practically the entire horse clip you posted. but its just hilarious with the commentators fawning over it and the music.. and I mean the horse is legit on beat..
belongs more in a circus or something tho |

I dont know if its just me, but i dont give a flying fuck about the olympics. Every sport I'd care about (besides tennis i guess) is watered down competition from being limited to a select number of entries per country. And I feel no sense of complete nationalism for USA where I root for them to win. it would be like wanting to watch WCG over a korean starleague if you didnt have any friends or rooting interests in it.
really the only things worth watching to me are tennis and swimming just to see how phelps does since i was friendly with him on stars/ftp. basketball is a bunch of one sided blowouts, baseball is worthless when all the best players are in the MLB, track and field has like 3 compelling events and they last about 90 seconds combined. and the other sports are retarded shit like this: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/zKQgTiqhPbw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Couldn't feel more different as I love the Olympics. I also couldn't care less for Olympic basketball/baseball, but there are so many sports that you only really see on t.v. once every 4 years, and in individual events the competition isn't watered down much because the best countries can send multiple athletes for the same event. Of course, I wouldn't be watching these sports if they weren't the Olympics. Most of these athletes have trained their entire lives for this competition that comes once every 4 years and the winners are decided by the smallest of fractions. I wouldn't say the Olympics are as good as a Big 4 playoff game but they are greatly superior to a Big 4 regular season game. |

I love it as well, but feel it's overrated how "special" it is.
When it's that rare and not that many people in a sport, I find it hard to be impressed.
If it's competition all year around, ladders, tournaments, and A LOT OF PEOPLE, going for the top spots, the skill is gonna increase by a lot.
Not hating, just making an observation, hurr

Olympics is tough for me. Problem is so many different events. Different times. I would feel weird going to a bar at 2PM to watch men's swimming or men's gymnastics. Then it never feels worth it to DVR or hunch over a computer and watch it non-Live. I don't think there is any event I will feel bad about missing it. (well maybe some of the footy matches, sprint finals, tennis finals, swimming finals, gymnastic finals, greco finals... we'll see). |

its sometimes interesting to watch a sport you dont get to often. but i dont give a flying fuck about trampolining, handball, triple jump, ribbon gymnastics or mens gymnastics or some of the other shit there. i also dont want to watch amateur boxers in headgear, pure judo when all the best in the world are japanese (judo is like starcraft wcg without knowing anyone), baseball, basketball.
on 2nd thought, i think the following are watchable: tennis, soccer, 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, long jump, high jump, diving and a couple women's gymnastics events. but im not gonna go out of my way to watch anything but probably tennis/soccer finals. ill watch a rerun of 100m/200m dash which will take me less than 30 seconds. will check if any world records are broken in other track and field and nod my head and shrug if they are. and will catch it on sportscenter if phelps wins a few golds |

dissing the olympics is not cool
olympics is amazing
repping your country in a sport and winning must be amazing and its great to watch for me (and most the world!)
i agree there are some bizarre games though but they tend to cycle off and cycle in new stuff

Tried watching the Men's Team Archery this morning and was very disappointed with just how much hi-tech bullshit is allowed to the point where they don't even look like bows anymore with shit 2-3ft tri pod stabilizers, double locked trigger releases to the point where they might as well be using a gun. Rather watch a local highschool/college competition where it's at least a semi-traditional set up. |

Agreed the Olympics are pretty meh, most of the sports have their own more important competitions outside of the games and athletics are pretty boring unless theres the potential for a WR to be broken, then it gets kinda cool. But its always cool to catch some Olympic camel toe and the female beach volley. |

I've never watched archery before, but the idea of it in my mind is cool (people with classic bow and arrow hitting targets). Are you saying they literally have tripods, from their arms or from the bow to the ground, holding them up?
The fuck..

It's not like a camera tripod that you use to plant something into the ground, think of it more as 3 bars making a bent T shape on the front end of the bow that balances the weight of the bow and gives another means of depth perception and targeting. |

I don't even like the Olympics that much, but this is really just inaccurate. A huge majority of the Olympic sports do not have anything larger than the Olympics. A small minority, formed by the largest sports in the world (which is probably why you feel this way), has bigger events outside of the Olympics. |

Ah I see.
Still sounds pretty unwieldy to take onto a battlefield, or for real-world hunting/survival :o

Yea of course you would never use it for anything other than a competition like this, it's impractical for anything that requires moving or quick drawing |

LOL have you looked at the Olympic shooting? Way more accurate that those bows ever are.
Im suprised though with the USAs gun per capita that they dont dominate the shooting sports.
P.s. That is not a snipe (pardon the pun) over the tragedy at Batman the other day. |
