I think it was OK except for mike though, I think he was way more interesting in previous seasons.
Felt like the episode was super short like 20 mins or something, guess that happends when you get excited.
I hope they go with him having a beard, also cut out the whimpery state he's in close to his wife or son. And more of the apathic, don't give a shit, like he was when the hot waitress was chatting him up.

While S4 was one of the best, I think S5 did admirably. As the title poster says, "all hail the king". Walt is becoming more and more like gus, realizing he is a king pin. The "because I say so" moment was perfect, and really compliments Mike's passivity perfectly, since he is nothing more than a servant to whomever is in charge. He was all badass dealing with everyone but Gus, but he knew his place when around him. Now he knows his place with Walt, which was perfect.
Keeping a human element to Walt is necessary. He must remain submissive and loving around his wife, otherwise he's just another Gus which is boring. I think S5 started off as perfect as can be given the history and characters up to this point. I mean, yeah we'd all like to see more carnage and stuff which made S4 so fucking awesome, but they have to keep the characters in line. Walt cant go off the deep end completely yet, and his partners have to adjust to him being in charge now. So far so good. ****

Keep in mind this is the last season, so whatever dramatic climax has to come is going to come real quick. It wouldnt make sense for walt to die or kill his family or commit suicide or whatever the fuck with 1-2 episodes left, so they have to build his rage quickly and allow him to evolve to that point within a believable time frame. These little homicidal instances are just building the pressure for when he ultimately blows a gasket.

What a fucking great episode. Hank has suspicions of Walter being Heisenberg last season and confronts and accuses him in tonight's episode. Straight-up admission from Walt and threatens Hank in the same breath. Story moves along swimmingly without it being forced.
what i actually love about this line is that you can take it the opposite way. what if hank isnt really sure walt is heisenberg and he actually is just a dying man who owns a car wash? his best course there would be to tread lightly as well. of course the rest of their conversation is somewhat an admission making this much more of a badass threat, but its still just so great

My favorite character is Jesse Pinkman, but I hate when he is depressed. I also love the Walter White character, he is such an amazing actor.

Yeah, epic shows sometimes have those small downswings. The best example of this would be the beginning of s2 of the wire. It really picks up though if u stay patient which I eventually did

Breaking bad Season 1 = okayish nothing special
Breaking Bad Season 2 = a bit better had its moments but still nothing special
Season 3 = Slow start but pretty good and intersting for the most part -> really good ending
Season 4 = epic season ! really loved it 10/10
Season 5 = still epic

Something tells me that Walt is still one step ahead and probably realized Jesse was with Hank, I mean Saul's men searched everywhere for him; he's nowhere to be found. He also left the car at Walt's house. Where is the last place to check? The DEA or Hank's. Maybe I'm wrong, and easy to say when you know what's really going on but Walt has connected the dots with less information before.
Kinda hard to realize he s with Hank, he s nowhere to be found and just told him he s going after him, why would he do that if he cut a deal with the DEA.
I feel like Jesse will go into a mental institution , Hank will commit suicide and Walt will live happily ever after :D

Saul, skyler, jesse, hank, and gomie all came to the conclusion that he would or should probably kill jesse instead of trying to reason with him. walt is somehow a step behind all of these people who he should be way ahead of. instead of freaking out about the gasoline incident he tries to cover it up with the worst most transparent lie he has told in a sea full of transparent lies to his wife over the course of these ~18 months. he keeps trying to save jesse and it took another threat to his life and possibly his family's lives for him to finally consider having jesse killed. he was way behind here and would have undoubtedly been blindsided by Jesse working with the DEA.

I doubt Hank has the authority to grant Jesse immunity from prosecution in exchange for his testimony against Walter, so it's weird that Jesse would just confess everything like that. No lawyer, nothing in writing, etc. I guess that's just one of those small details we are just supposed to overlook because it's just t.v.

I thought Jesse said he was terrified of Walt killing him if he became an official witness, but he wanted to tell what he knew anyway (basically for free) just to get back at him.

Makes no sense that they take down a bunch of armed guards in no time and then they make a mess trying to kill two guys, the unlimited ammo of hank and gomez was also lame.

Two things about the gunfight
1. They wanted to show those guns blazing and throw a solid bit of violence in there.
2. The part of the gunfight we saw in real time was only a second or two. They used slow motion and replayed the scene from different POVs. Guns started firing and they shot back instantly taking cover the car was only feet away. Still unrealistic they didn't get blasted but they really slowed that down for dramatic effect; to show those ARs ripping in slowmo

Police pistol magazines can hold up to like 15/16 rounds were as civilians only get ones with 10 for situations just as this.
As for showing badge... how can you not smell the bullshit from that guys tone of voice and smirk after he says it?

i thought the episode was very good. obviously the scenes with walt on the phone, breakfast being a clown, walt fucking up repeatedly are a bit annoying, but everything else was really great. i obviously dont think it was as good as the best episodes like crawl space, half measures or a few other episodes this season, but thought it tied together everything leading up to the flash forwards very well.

I like that about Breaking Bad. The deaths are sudden, blunt, uneventful, just like they would be in real life. 9 out of 10 shows would put that in slow motion, with the main protagonist screaming "nooooo!" and somber music playing in the background.

100%. Walt would never hurt Skyler or Jr. That phone call was brilliant.
This episode was much better than the last one. So many OH MY DAYUM moments and the story moved along so fucking fast but without the feeling of it being rushed. Only two episodes left and we have no idea why Walt has an arsenal in his trunk. My guess it to maybe save Jesse from Uncle Jack?

I think it's the fact Hank & Gomey are dead so the DEA is going to be all over that case. They died while working on a case to bust Walt for Heisenberg. Their last known contact is Hank telling Marie he's arresting Walt.
So the DEA is obviously gonna go full blast on Walt now because of Hank and Gomey missing/dead and doing so while working on Heisenberg. Plus the testimony of Jesse that's on tape about Walt.
They could probably arrest Skyler on aiding and abetting with that alone. Plus who knows what other criminal charges.
Even if they couldn't bring her to criminal charges, her being a suspect as part of it would be hell for the family.

What is the significance of the airplane crash and the one eyed teddy bear? Is that something I missed in the past or a scene from the future? I remember the pink bear itself but not really what it was all about.
What was the point of the flashback in the beginning of episode 14 (this one)? Was it just to show Walt and Jesse at that spot for the first time- some full circle symbollism thing or is there more to it than that

The point of the flashback this episode was to show how far Walt has come from being a regular dad to a master manipulator. You can see him practicing his lie to Skyler right before he calls her, and when he actually calls her the lie doesn't sound believable at all (at least, from our view point).

Dunno if it's just me, but I feel like to truely enjoy a show sometimes you just need to let the show fool you and make you follow its twists and turns like its intended to so that you get the full entertainment effect. Rather, trying to break the show down to fully understand everything allows more room for disappointment in the end since you've made it so that the bar of standards is now set much higher to you as a viewer

Breaking Bad's fundamentals are based on the psychology of its characters, if you dont understand that part of the series its no more than a decent-avarage tv filler. in fact, his phone call may actually goes as far as possibly hurting skyler. walt talks about how she would say it was wrong and didnt agree with it but it showed that she clearly knew what he was doing the entire time. she could have pleaded ignorance otherwise and claimed she believed his blackjack story but she no longer has that option. although there is probably some law about not incriminating your spouse so maybe looking the other way is a viable option for her

First and foremost - Walt cherishes his family. He tried to give up all of his money (and likely subsequently go to prison) to save Hank. The guy who is trying to put him away.
He obviously knew the fbi/whatever were listening in. The tone of his voice alone belayed the fact he was speaking 'differently'. When has he ever talked like that? The pained look on his face and the fact he was trying to muffle his sorrow while trying to make the call makes the whole thing pretty obvious he was doing it as a guise.
Even in the house, immediately after getting knifed he was trying to 'keep the unit together' if you know what I mean.
Skyler was fucked since her sister knew about her involvement, as did junior, and there's no way she could talk her way out of it to the DEA. Knowing of crime(s) but not participating doesn't exempt you from prosecution. Walt made it sound on the phone as if he bullied and intimidated her into submission with regard to his schemes. That would exempt her.
What I'm wondering now is why the house is run-down as shit, and wtf does he go back to the house for the ricin capsule? Even if the house and carwash were seized, they would be sold.. wouldn't they? Not left to rot? Pure speculation here.

the brunette in the cafe who met with todd is going to die badly. it's going to be very graphic and way more detailed than how hank/gomie went out. Any other outcome would just be disappointing and not kosher
i like the direction they took in this episode and resolved any discomfort after episode 14's clunker. go breaking bad!

fuck, the series is going to end, i don't remember they used this evidence for something, i don't remember being mentioned or something, and i have been wondering wtf happened with that evidence since then...
man what a sad (and awesome) episode. even though todd was already well established as a psychopath, shooting andrea like that felt like the coldest moment in the series to me.

That evidence is the bank account routing numbers for all of Mike's men that worked for Gus and that Mike managed. Thats why when Mike teamed up with Walt and Jesse for the first time, he took a portion out to pay these "legacy costs" which were to pay off all of his men that went to jail so they won't talk. Walt teamed up w Nazi Jack & Co. and killed all of Mike's men in the jails.

I dont really get Andrea's death into the plot by the way....Like okay Jesse tried to escape and they punished him by killing Andrea, but they also lost their edge on him. There is nothing they can do to make him cook for them now. The kid is left an orphan and will get picked up by the government agency and be fairly well protected and he was the only one left that Jesse cares about. And Jesse doesnt really care if he lives or dies at this point, all they did is force him into thinking of a way to destroy them even if it would include suicide... So yeah... shooting her in the leg with a mask on or like stabbing her or some shit like that would make sense, killing her was just meaningless. This was probably the only death in the series that actually upset me a lot too.

Umm, the only reason Jesse went into this downward spiral (second downward spiral) was when he found out Brock was poisoned by Walt. So yeah, he definitely gives a shit and they still have enormous leverage over him. Everything just ties together so fucking well in this show and everything makes sense.
Now, any idea who Walt is going to go after in the finale? Jack or the Grey Matter people?

Jack obv, for killing Hank and taking his money, but i was also thinking that he may do something against Grey Matter, but that would be too much or rushed for just 1 episode.
The grey matter guys were just to show that not only has all the work Walt put in been meaningless but he's actively destroyed his life accomplishments beforehand. Combined with Breakfast refusing any help from him it means the entirety of Walts life has been making ~70 million dollars for a bunch of nazi gang members. There is just no way that combines to mean anything other than he goes off and kills said nazi's to me. Maaaybe he loses to said nazi's.

this. every single aspect of his life and everyone he cared about's life has gotten significantly worse due to walt breaking bad. jesse may have been in prison on his own, but instead hes in captivity with a group of people who will kill him the moment hes no longer needed. the only people jesse cared about are dead because of walt. (jane and andrea) hank is dead, his son hates him, his daughter is fatherless, his wife is facing criminal charges, hes on the run from the police and his cancer is even worse than before. its ruined his entire life.
now all he has motivating him is to get revenge on a group of people that have actually helped him more than hurt him. sure jack and the nazis stole 70 million from walt, but consider it this way: they let him keep 10 million when they didnt have to. they kept walt out of prison not once but twice: once when hitting the 10 guys in prison simultaneously and the 2nd by saving him from hank and gomie. they let him and his family walk away unharmed, they destroyed evidence of the tape that hank filmed of jesse. really these guys are awful human beings who did tons of bad but to walt they have actually been helpful.
its pretty obvious in the last episode almost every "bad" character gets got. lydia, todd, jack+crew and walt are all going down. the only question is whether walt dies of cancer after reconciling with jesse or walt dies by jesse's hand. also possible that jesse shoots walt and reconciles with him in his dying moments and forgives him for what hes done.

Daut thats an interesting take on the nazis and true. Had walt not mentioned his money (and maybe also hinging on if hank didn't call marie or if skylar had "called marie's bluff" because walt wasn't actually in custody) the Nazi's would not have jacked him and I think things would be much more copasetic because what would walt actually have to be mad about? Once walt cooled down and realized that Hank had to be killed just as much if not more than everyone they had killed before for the same reasons he would not be able to logically hold that against them. He would either be off with his family or at least have his legacy buried and ready to somehow someday pass on.
As is however Walt got gaffled for 70 million and i suppose for Walt that is enough. He may have also truly wanted to trade himself for Hank but that was impossible given Hank and Gomie saw the Nazis. Walt might give himself up but the Nazis wont. Just because the Nazis had to kill Hank to save themselves doesn't mean Walt will forgive them the murder because it was a logical act. All he has left is to seek vengeance for the things he has lost and the Nazis stealing those money barrels and killing hank is the best place to direct that so he has quickly forgotten the good they have done him.

i kind of think that the things that everyone expects to happen (like killing the gray matter people) wont happen because there will be a twist/cleaverness to the story

one of the reasons i dont expect that to happen is time constraints. in the last episode he has to make contact with his family, fight jack's people, exonerate his wife again, standoff with jesse and die. i really dont think theres time for more than a few moments worth of time spent on gray matter. maybe he releases a video saying his connection to them and all his important contributions which would really fuck them publicly, but cant picture more than that. also dont think he kills them just for disassociating themselves from him

I think the vast majority of people don't think walt is going to kill the gray matter people. I personally think that idea is ridiculous. I'd be very surprised if you ever heard of those former co-partners again.
If you had have said that he's not going to kill the nazis due to a twist, than you might have something. But no, I definitely think he is. Who knows, this show is nuts.
All gray matter had to do with this is spark Walt to quit being a pussy and go out with a BIG bang. They hurt his ego on TV, and hes going to show them. Not by killing them, but showing them he isn't done yet. He's much more concerned with killing Jack anyway.
Personally i think jack and todd have been awesome to Walt.

Reclaim his empire, become the new Gus? Gus was the main sponsor of the police and noone had a slight clue he is the largest drug importer in the state, had a legit buisiness on top of it, perfect logistics. While Walt is all over the news as a teacher gone methdruglord. Normally Walt's only option is to hide or go to some other country, however that would leave his family destroyed and he obv wont do that.
Tbh Jesse is in his current state because of his own stupidity. Yeah Walt manipulated him some but overall he managed to make a dumb choice after a dumb choice. Before the beginning of this season I was pretty sure he d end up overdosing or shooting himself in the head, guess not.
I wonder if the ricin is a main thing to be used in last ep, I kind of dont see how he can use it, unless on himself. I ll go with a real longshot but Id say he s doing some possible suicide revenge mission on the nazis where best case scenario police shows up, he poisons himself so they are forced to put him in a hospital leaving him a slight chance of escape afterwards.

ROFL, are you serious about Andrea? Apparently you are the only one who gave a shit about Andrea whilst everyone else thought she was cancerous AIDS. That shit was hilarious and so badly executed. Contrived dramatic score, cliche last words, and a fade-out of a gunshot. The best thing about Breaking Bad is that no one is safe. Shit just happens. The way last week's episode started with a dead Gomez on the ground, and Hank getting shot in the head after knowing there was no way out is just how Breaking Bad does things. Shit is dramatic just the way it is and the audience still cares for these characters without the need for cliched additions.
Take Dexter's series finale for example. The entire Debra-in-the-hospital scene was LOLWUT. Queue the dramatic music, Dexter docks his boat on the hospital's dock (WTF? HUH?), he takes Debra off life support, wheels her corpse out in his fucking brown henley and cargo pants, loads her up on his docked boat and rides out into the middle of nowhere and dumps her fucking body in the ocean. He boats off into the MS Paint hurricane in the horizon and becomes a lumberjack. That shit sucked. Bad. Fuck Dexter.

the reason gus didnt have a family is because he was probably gay. they heavily implied he was in love with his first meth cook that was killed by the cartel in mexico: he put him through college and was deeply deeply hurt passed the point of caring for a friend when he was killed and his desire for revenge was great. he is constantly inviting men over for dinner and cooking for them. gail gives off some gay vibes as well who gus was close with.

Their dining together and Gus' remark "We work together, why not break bread together" is in stark contrast to the turn that their relationship takes over the next two episodes. even the actor who played gus fring thought it was implied. i think that was the vibe he tried to give off during that scene. i remember thinking at the time it was weird we never see him with a woman, he cooks for men and then the reaction he had to his friends death in juxtaposition to his demeanor in the rest of the series came off as feelings for a person stronger than even a family member.

I sure did. I think I went beyond just the surface of the idea that is thrown out, that they could be lovers. That certainly is a possibility. I wanted to cultivate the caring nature of a man who was coming up with someone who was a dear, dear, beloved friend, and that to me deepens it over anything that could be sexual. It was a deeper relationship. I loved the fact that it's never really pointed to one way or the other, that the audience has to make up their own mind. To me, that is much more important to have and that's why if it were just a lover, I don't think that the hate would be as deep, or the revenge would be so poignant.

Anybody else is a bit bothered that they included the flashforward with the ricin and the house? I don't like the way it made us feel so comfortable about Walt not getting caught in the last few eps. I see no reason to have put it in. I'm thinking primarily about when he rang the DEA in the previous ep; there was no suspense at all because we knew something would change his mind.

SPOILERS BELOW.
Hell no. This episode just wrapped everything in a box and it was fucking great. Everything just made sense to me. One scene in particular where I thought it was lazy writing but was proven wrong was the hitman scene at those two rich bitch's house. I was thinking, "Why don't the hitmen just kill all three of them and take the $9M because they can surely see that stack of money....?" I was pleasantly surprised and relieved it was Badger and skinny meth guy and laughed at the two laser pointers.
There were no loose ends, ambiguity, or cheap cop outs to this finale. The meth dealers are dead, Lydia is dead, his family will get all the money, no more blue meth to be manufactured... Just perfect. I felt Walt had to die in this finale for this series to live up to its caliber and the show delivered. The two best parts was when Jesse got to fucking kill Todd and Walt shooting Jack in the head mid-sentence, ROFL. Just so glorious and well-deserved.
