Aside from letting you guys know about the Tough Mudder event, I'm trying to see if there's anyone going to any of the many events that are held around the world.
It would be a great time to do this event, as well as meet up with some fellow LP`ers along the way and team up for this event, since some of the courses require help from other people.
I've been talking to some friends, and we got a 5 person group so far that will enter the Diablo Grande event in Northern California. Taho filled up too fast.

About
Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. As the leading company in the booming obstacle course industry, Tough Mudder has already challenged half a million inspiring participants worldwide and raised more than $2 million dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project. But Tough Mudder is more than an event, it’s a way of thinking. By running a Tough Mudder challenge, you’ll unlock a true sense of accomplishment, have a great time, and discover a camaraderie with your fellow participants that’s experienced all too rarely these days.
FACT #1 – Marathon running is boring
And the only thing more boring than doing a marathon is watching a marathon. Road-running may give you a healthy set of lungs, but will leave you with as much upper body strength as Keira Knightley. At Tough Mudder, we want to test your all-around mettle, not just your ability to run in a straight line, on your own, for hours on end, getting bored out of your mind. Our obstacle courses are designed by British Special Forces to test you in every way and are meant only for truly exceptional all-around people, not for people who have enough time and money to train their knees to run 26 miles.
FACT #2 – Mudders do not take themselves too seriously
Triathlons, marathons, and other lame-ass mud runs are more stressful than fun. Not Tough Mudder. As hardcore as our courses are, we meet you at the finish line with a beer, a laugh, and a rockin’ live band. It’s pretty hard to take yourself seriously when you’re covered in mud and have just finished an obstacle called ‘Just The Tip’, so please don’t show up at a Tough Mudder without a sense of humor. Just check out the ridiculous team costumes in our event photos to get a feel for the spirit of Tough Mudder.
FACT #3 – You cannot complete a Tough Mudder course alone
To get through mud, fire, ice-water, and 10,000 volts of electricity you’ll need teammates to pick you up when your spirits dip. To get over 12 foot walls and through underground mud tunnels, you’ll need teammates to give you a boost and a push. Tough Mudders are team players who make sure no one gets left behind. To that end, all Mudders are expected to uphold our ideals and exhibit teamwork and camaraderie both on the course and off it. All participants are asked to join us in reciting the Tough Mudder pledge before starting each event.

can u imagine LPers doing this?
there would be a huge argument about optimal strategy for the first obstacle that would go off on some wild tangent and end up with everyone trolling each other until they shut the course down.
sounds fuckin awesome but it's a bit too far away for me

I'm keen on it. I'll know more towards the time if i can come or not. I'm supposed to be running a 10-20 mile marathon on the same day for breast cancer.
Where abouts in England btw?

If you're going to attend the Diablo Grande (Patterson, CA) in NorCal, let me know and I can add you to my Facebook group.
Right now, there's 7 guys on my team. 2 of us already paid the entrance fee, so we're going 100%.
Also, if you want to share some ideas, strats, clothing (shoes, gloves, tops, bottoms, etc.), post them here.
----------
I wear glasses, so I'm going to buy a string to keep them on my head while running up and down mountains, and switch to swimming goggles in the water/mud events.
What I plan to do is, purchase some "Inov-8 Mudclaw 333" shoes to train in, as well as buy Compression Leggings and Longsleeve Compression Mock top from Under Armour, and some inexpensive gloves that have grip.

I was reading replies from people who did the event already, most people said Vibram finger shoes suck for this event cuz they saw people having to stop to take little pebbles/rocks out of the shoes as well as the Velcro not working anymore because of all of the mud.
This looks super fun! what chances does a 38 yr old smoker have in this? is this even doable in a couple months preparation? i might consider going if there are enough LP guys in one event haha
really thought this was a monster truck 4x4 event

Random bump for those who didn't see this thread before, and to those who might have forgotten about it.
I'm still going to this event, right now I have a team of 4 who have paid and are training, and we'll have 1-2 more for sure within a few months time.
I added some videos from the most recent Tough Mudder events. They're basically 2-3 minute clips of the obstacle course + people from various events.

Shameless bump:
Congratulations! You finished in the top 5% at Tough Mudder Southeast/Midlands & have qualified for World's Toughest Mudder 2012! On 17 & 18 November, Big Mudder will be delivering the baddest, most epic Tough Mudder course to date in Englishtown, New Jersey where extreme Mudders from around the world will come together and compete over 24 hours to determine who the Toughest Mudders in the world are in 2012.
The event was less tough than advertised but very good fun nonetheless, anyone done one recently?

I missed your post somehow.
I'm still training for my event, which is on September 29th. I just got back a little bit ago from a 6 mile trail run.

I wouldn't get too hyped for this. I've done one and a few others similar to this (like Spartan race) and I have to say it's nothing really like this event "trailer." If you're a front runner in the event, nothing seems ready when you first get there, and if you're in the middle of the pack, expect a lot of waiting at each obstacle as those in front of you need time to climb, maneuver or whatever, and the line builds. I definitely get wet everytime, but honestly, it's easier to come out dirtier from a rainy trail run. It is by far more a social event for friends and having fun than this hardcore, grit your teeth, only the best of the best could do, etc. Very misleading trailer.
Btw, fact #1 is absolutely a stupid thing to claim. I would of quit a long time ago if that was the case.
Triathlons, marathons, and other lame-ass mud runs are more stressful than fun. Not Tough Mudder.
Wat? I've never met one person who found triathlons or marathons and said it was even the least bit stressful. The bold part is pretty accurate though. I would however, do it again with friends, because it is a lot of fun. Can't really say it's accomplishing though. I'm trying to paint a picture because it's irritating watching the trailer and then knowing what it's really like. Have fun though.

Thanks, seems like a good statement, from the trailer, I did kind of get the fact it seemed a lot more social than challenging (even if probably challenging obv), but they do make it look like the hardest thing ever, but at the same time, I think they also make it look like a big party where you shouldnt take anything serious and just have fun with friends and meet new people

^ My friends and I who went to the Diablo Grande event in Patterson, California. (NorCal)
I'm the nerd with the goggles on, on the far right. (I wear prescription glasses, so I wore goggles so I wouldn't get anything in my already fucked up eyes and make me quit the run. This helped out cuz there was A LOT of dust and mud that was getting all over from people running up and down hill in front of you and the mud bathes you were jumping into.)
During the last obstacle, which is this area where you get electrocuted, I got zapped 4-5 times. Toward the end, I got zapped and fell to my knees, getting a deep scrape on one of my knees which had me limping for 6-7 days. I'll start running again within the next 2 weeks so I keep my legs in shape.
I'll post pics of my injuries if my friend every posts the pics from his iPhone.
To add more: The event was a great first experience in obstacles and long run events, as I had never done one before, and we didn't train as hard as we wanted, but we were able to run 11 miles in our weekly warm-ups, so we didn't worry too much about the 12 miles at Tough Mudder. Also, they didn't have some of the upper-body obstacles like the rope climb you see in a high school gym, so I was sad about that. I'm pretty skinny, but I can carry my own body weight pretty well.
The first 5-6 miles kicked our butts though, as it was uphill for like 85% of it, which slowed us down more than we expected. I was surprised though, because there were people who had to be escorted out on golf carts because they couldn't past the first 5 mile climb, which was sad. Those people paid a minimum of $125 to be escorted out before reaching halfway.
Another sad part was the people who got hurt by twisting their ankles and such, during the last 2 miles of the event, who couldn't finish. The last 2 miles was pretty much flat ground with obstacles, so those people finished the hardest levels and couldn't reach the end.
In conclusion, I'd recommend this for anyone who likes doing adventurous stuff. It lets you know how out of shape you really are. It's also a great event to do with your friends, since you're usually helping each other and having a great time. I'll go again next year.

Yea i went - but i went with friends who were in worse shape than me, was really really fun especially the mud mile but i honestly didnt feel "tested" because of the pace we went at lol!
worst obstacle for me was a low electric wire one where you had to crawl through over a plastic ground sheet while they spray water at you. when we got there everyone was just standing looking at it. so i dive in and start crawling through all hoses direct at me, got zapped a tonne felt like someone stamping on your back lol
Grats on top 5% teej, how fast did you do it in? going worlds toughest?
obligatory finish pic, short one on the right is me hah:

+1 on the electric wire was the worst obstacle.
Finished in 2:15, but spent a fair amount of timing waiting round for team mates early on/waiting for my mate to get over the last wall. I won't be doing worlds toughest as ive been seriously ill the past few months. Was shitting myself before the event and it definately wasnt as tough as advertised, but it was a lot of fun!

Any of you guys going this year? Or, did any of you already go this year?
I'm heading leaving for Tahoe in a few hours, and I'll be running in tomorrow's (Saturday) event.
