So, my life right now is basically school and poker. I find that with the free time I actually have I may as well play poker as do anything else. Some of you know who I am and know I used to be a pretty damn good fixed limit poker player.
Well, I started playing fixed limit again, and found I still seem to have a natural skill for it, particularly shorthanded. So I am going to try to hone my skills and move up limits.
The thing is, I want someone to be able to talk to about it and study with, and not many people play fixed limit. Not that I have many poker friends to talk to these days anyways.
So I am offering this community for anyone who reads this a chance. If you are intelligent and a quick learner and are interested in getting good at fixed limit, then shoot me a PM telling about yourself and why you would like to study fixed limit with me. Odds are we will become very good at this game.
I don't actually need anyone to talk to about this, it would just make it much more entertaining and interactive for myself.
I will mostly be discussing shorthanded and probably largely heads up, because I find it's extremely easy to push edges in fixed limit there. You also get more hands in that you actually get to play.
For those who don't know me I used to play 100/200 and 200/400 once upon a time. That was a long time ago, before I went busto. Now I am in the air force and play in my spare time, and since im U.S. citizen I am playing on "Black Chip Poker" building up from nothing. Anyways yeah, the end. |

i think you should invest time learning a new game. i know you always had a knack for LHE, but the game is dead. low stakes the rake is too high and high stakes everyone knows what they are doing and most of the pros are losing money before rakeback.
i suggest you learn triple draw. most of the LHE players transition to it very well. |

dead huh, I have a lot of trouble believing that. I played some 1/2 and 2/4 and the people were bad. and it doesn't take that much of an edge (.5bb/100 HU?) to make decent money at higher stakes. maybe people just aren't good enough?
maybe ill try triple draw anyways |

well the issue is mainly that at limits like 2/4 the rake is probably 4BB/100 per person, so moving up is insanely hard. and once you reach 30/60+ everyone knows all the ranges perfectly from every position and play well enough postflop so basically the edge is in tilt control. not a lot of games run and the ones that do are 5 regs waiting for a fish to join that will bust quick.
i think there is some money to be made specifically at 10/20 and 15/30, but higher than that the players are very solid and lower than that the rake is insane |

^ the above is correct.
Live limit is still plenty beatable at the mid-high level though, and online its still useful to know if you're looking to get into 8game. Post some hands. |

Agreed, with rake involved poker isn't simply a game of skill. |

Lol that's 3 of the top 5-6 LHE players in the world.
Before I quit poker I played LHE 6max as high as 5/10 (and occasionally 10/20) as recently as mid 2010. Out of curiosity I've looked at some online poker rooms recently for the LHE action and it is shit. Especially, HUHU LHE. There are mega bumhunting issues (seriously, if you think NLHE bumhunting is bad check out FL). Crap, even live LHE in Vegas is becoming rarer and rarer even at a place like the Bellagio.
Once you get to 40/80 and up everyone is just taking turns swapping each other's money around. There are a few beasts who tear up the games, check out the Small Stakes Short Handed forum NC/LC thread on 2p2 (I know what you're thinking, Small Stakes? But yes, a lot of 100/200+ players hang out in there for some reason). But seriously, I'd be dead honest with yourself and realize those 20-30 who do well are extremely fucking good at LHE and the odds of you being one of them are very, very small.
Listen to others advice about playing live LHE or learning a different game like TD and 8 games. FLO8 is really fun too and you can have a really good sized edge but games are few and far between. |
