<img src="http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Raidern/ispt_logo.jpg" align="right" style="margin:5px; border:1px solid black;">Out of the blue, the announcement of a new huge poker tournament stimulated discussions on several poker sites. It's all about the International Stadiums Poker Tour, a tournament to be held each year at a famous international stadium. The announcement comes in a video that presents the event as the biggest poker event ever, a $30,000,000 guaranteed tournament to take place somewhere between August and October 2012. The tournament presents a new concept and everything suggests it will be a logistical nightmare for the organizers. The event will present both online and live action, but everything will take place at Wembley, the legendary British stadium.
On the first day, the players will play online from their seats in the stadium, using eletronic pads which will be offered to them. From Day 2 and on, the action will take place on real tables set up on the lawn of the stadium. There will be five consecutive playdays, and the organizers expect between 20,000 and 30,000 entrants, which means the buy-in should be around $1,000. On the final day, the finalists will compete for a share of the remaining $17,500,000 prize and the winner will win a round $10,000,000.
The founders of ISPT are Bernard Tapie, Laurent Tapie and Prosper Masquelier. The Tapies own the Group that signed an acquisition agreement with Full Tilt Poker just a few days ago. The official website, ispt.com/, seems to be under construction, as new information are still going online and we can spot some mistakes and bugs. Yesterday, the site showed nothing but the video, but new content has just been added.
Understandably, the ISPT is facing a lot of skepticism. The idea of 30,000 players using eletronic pads to play online in an international stadium seems absurd, and it doesn't help that the site has an amateurish feel to it. At first, the site informed that the event would take place at Wembley Stadium from May 10-12, but calls to the Stadium confirmed that it was not yet booked for those dates. The site now doesn't mention a specific date, but rather a period when the event should take place, stating that the official date will be released by the Wembley organization in November. The upcoming weeks should bring us more information about ISPT.
