<img src="http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/1eff0.nbcheadsup.jpg" align="right" style="margin:5px; border:1px solid black;">One of the most prestigious heads-up tournaments in the world took place at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas this weekend. The 64-player draw had many of the finest poker players in the world, such as Phil Ivey, Durrrr, Elky and Patrik Antonius. All these guys were disputing the first place prize of $500,000, but in order to claim it they would need to defeat 6 players on their way to the title.
Since this is one of the few events that many people prefer to watch when it is broadcast we chose to post the results in spoiler-tags. So in case you still want to enjoy the TV-broadcast of this event (being aired in April and May) we advice you not to click the spoilertag below . In case you do want to know the results, here we go:<break>

Annie Duke won, that's it!
Oh, well, let's look at it a bit further. The draw promised some pretty interesting matches in round one, including Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier vs Peter Eastgate. Unfortunately he didn't make it past round one, as he lost to the 2008 WSOP Main Event winner. His tournament ended when he got it all-in preflop with A3 against Eastgate's AT.
Eastgate then continues his run by beating Erick Lindgren and Jamie Gold, before facing Erik Seidel in the quarter-finals. A very short match followed and Seidel wins the match to play Scotty Nguyen in the semi-finals. That match was pretty tough and long, but in the end the blinds got higher and when Nguyen hits trips with Seidel hitting a full house, there was just no way the money didn't go in. Seidel advances to the final.
Meanwhile at the other side of the bracket we saw Annie Duke also reaching the finals. She had to go through some tough matches, and in her match against Paul Wasicka it looked like it was all over for her. She got her money in, about even in stacks, with AT against pocket aces. The flop didn't help her, but a runner-runner straight got her to the next round. After that, her matches had been going pretty smoothly as she beat Jerry Yang and Dennis Philips to reach the final match against Seidel.
In this best of 3 she took down the first match when her top-pair-top-kicker holds against the flushdraw of Seidel. The second match however went to Seidel, as he got Duke crippled and then finished it with K5 against the 8-7 of Duke. In the third and final match it looked like Seidel would be the next champion, as he held a 4:1 chiplead. Duke on the otherhand desperately tried to win some chips back, as she was shoving all-in a few times in a row. Seidel just waited for a decent hand, and when Duke shoved all-in again, he snap-called with AK. Duke showed Q-9, hit a queen on the flop and a nine on the turn and doubled up. Eventually Seidel got shortstacked and had to start playing more aggressive preflop as well. He got his money in with A-2 to see the pocket 9's of Duke. There was no help from the board and it's set: Annie Duke wins the event and $500,000!
Final results: 1 Annie Duke $500,000
2 Erik Seidel $250,000
3 Dennis Phillips $125,000
4 Scotty Nguyen $125,000
5 Jerry Yang $75,000
6 Peter Eastgate $75,000
7 Doyle Brunson $75,000
8 Jason Mercier $75,000
9 Paul Wasicka $25,000
10 Barry Greenstein $25,000
11 Annette Obrestad $25,000
12 Eli Elezra $25,000
13 Phil Laak $25,000
14 Gabe Kaplan $25,000
15 Jamie Gold $25,000
16 Chris Moneymaker $25,000

| Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us and as we let our own lights shine we unconsciously give other people permision to do the same | |

moneymaker isn't that bad, why don't you go sit down at a HU 5/10 plo table against him and find out how "bad" he is |

I'm glad Gabe and Doyle had decent showings, but half of the people on there I would've guessed would drop their first match. Was pulling for Elky or Barry to take it though... |

comedy post indeed, but even if he meant Raymer he'd still be wrong. Raymer himself has said he couldn't beat 5/10, PLO or NL |
