As Ketul "Ket" Nathwani came in as second in chips, he was one of the favorites to win it all, yet it just didn't happen at the first EPT Berlin. It was a very special EPT event, and most talked about will be the armed robbery that took place the day before, but the poker itself was also quite exciting.
A total of 945 players from 48 countries paid the €5,300 entry fee into the Main Event to create a prizepool of €4,725,000 . Ket continued the way he played throughout the tournament, aggressive and winning a few big pots without showdown. Unfortunately, his aggression was also what cost him a big part of his stack. He lost about 40% of his stack when he raised MacPhee's bet on the turn of the board as he sees MacPhee shove all-in. Ket folds and is left with one of the shorter stacks. When he later shoves all-in over MacPhee's preflop bet, he gets called and is in bad shape: against , There's no help for our hero, and he's out in 5th place, earning him €210,000 . Still an awesome performance, congratulations!
Chipleader Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee kept his dominant stack throughout most of the final table, yet it took him over three hours to complete the heads-up against Ilari Tahkokalio. The victory earned him a sweet €1,000,000 and a nice trophy. For MacPhee it was his first big live win, yet he also had big success online. In 2008, he broke the record for most Tournament Leaderboard points at PokerStars, as he earned over $100,000 profit that month.
MacPhee commented after his win: “Winning an EPT was a real goal of mine. I have worked very hard for this. It feels awesome. Ilari is an extremely good player and I’ve got a lot of respect for him.”
