Either Doyle Brunson could get his 11th bracelet, as he started in 3rd chip position, or Jeff Lisandro could add his name to the list containing Brock "tsoprano" Parker and Phil Ivey to become the 3rd player to win 2 bracelets in 2009! Being second in chips to Abe Mosseri, he had a fair chance on that one.
12 players of a total of 160 entrants made it to the final day and it was gonna be a looong day for a few of them. The final table consisted of big players and big names, with Lyle Berman (the guy looking like Waldorf or Statler, from The Muppets, not sure which one it is) and Scotty Nguyen as the first two to go. For Scotty Nguyen it might be his last 10k Stud-event, since he said he'd stop playing poker if he wouldn't win at least $4 million during the 2009 WSOP! His early bustout must have been bad news for his fans.
Doyle Brunson's shot at increasing his already legendary status also failed. About an hour after Justin "BoostedJ" Smith got knocked out in 8th place, it was time for "Texas Dolly" to go. After being crippled, he got his money in poorly and lost his last chips to Farzad Rouhani, who continued to add chips to his stack. When Mike Wattel got knocked out in 3rd place they went heads-up and at some point Rouhani even had a 3:1 chiplead. But Lisandro managed to fight back and regained the chiplead. The final hand was a big chance for Rouhani to double up, or at least split it. He held a gutshot wheeldraw and a nice draw for the low-hand, but did not manage to improve on any of those and in the end it was Lisandro who won it with 2 pair, kings and sixes.
This means Jeff Lisandro wins his 2nd bracelet of this year and his 3rd overall. His first was in the $2000 Seven Card Stud event in 2007 and his second was this year at the $1500 Seven Card Stud event, and now his 3rd Stud bracelet, that must mean you're doing something right! Added to that, he also made the final table of the $10k Seven Card Stud event! So yet another awesome performance at this year's World Series of Poker and the 3rd double-bracelet winner of the year, and they still call it a "game of chance"?
