In fact, it even broke the record of being the biggest ever major poker event in Europe. With a total of 1,177 players registered paying €5,300 each it made the prize pool €5,713,300 and a first prize worth €1,508,000!

Another record was broken by a Croatian player: Dragan Galic (fifth for €314,000) became the first player to hold the overnight chip lead every night during the tournament, and he is also the first Croatian player ever to cash in a EPT main event.

It was however Constant Rijkenberg, from Amsterdam, Holland, who managed to outlast 1,176 players in this tournament. Those included three world champions and numerous top-notch online and live poker players. Throughout all five days, Rijkenberg's stack had been on a roller-coaster ride, and he continued that on the final table. He could have been knocked out in 6th place when he 4-bet shoved QJo into William Reynolds AKo, but when he flopped the nut straight on the T-9-8 board, it looked as though he couldn't lose this. He went on the get heads-up with Finnish Kalle Niemi with a 7:5 chiplead, and when he got dealt pocket aces in the 4th hand of heads-up, it was all over. Niemi flopped top pair-top-kicker with AdTd on the Th5s3s board and they got all-in on the 5h turn. No help on the river and Constant Rijkenberg wins the EPT San Remo and over 1.5 million Euro (almost 2 million dollar).

The 20-year-old was overwhelmed when his dreams came true: “I really don’t know what to feel right now. My first dream was to play an EPT, my second to play on the featured TV table, my third was to make the final table and fourth dream was to win. It’s the biggest dream you can have apart from the WSOP main event - and I’m too young to play that right now.”

For the Italian players it was not a big success. With around one third of all players on the field being Italian, it was a big disappointment for local players, when only one players from Italy reached final table and finished on last spot.

Final standings with payouts:

    1 Constant Rijkenberg Holland €1,508,000
    2 Kalle Niemi Finland €862,000
    3 Gustav Sundell Sweden €480,000
    4 William Reynolds USA €377,000
    5 Dragan Galic Croatia €314,000
    6 Ovi Balaj Romania €229,000
    7 Alexander Fitzgerald USA €171,000
    8 Danilo D'Ettoris Italy €114,000

Meh... even though he is Dutch, he came across as an arrogant prick on the tables a little bit... But I guess, good for him and everything.

Thats exactly what was my first opinion about him after reading his answers to interview after he won ept... like 'Yeah, I played best, I deserved it, it was fate and I had to win bla bla'. When I saw this it reminded me about how completetly different and humble Peachy was after he busted out from last years EPT Monte Carlo... easy to see who got class here

True, he didn't seem humble or anything to me. I watched like the last 10 hands or so (or should I say "a few hands and all of the heads-up"? ) and in the interview he's like "I'm a smart guy, won't waste it on stupid things, it won't effect my life" (lol?) and "a few months ago I told my friend I was gonna win this". Not really the usual more appropriate "I got lucky in a few spots, and my opponents were playing really well and it was a tough final table."-kind of stuff you usually see.

The second place finisher, Kalle Niemi satellited from a 20$ tournament and this was the first live tournament he ever played

NICE START IMO

I am a NL25 player so take my advice/comments in that perspective
