The November Nine: Scott Montgomery

Montgomery is one of the guys who started playing poker after the Moneymaker boom back in 2003. He has been playing poker online for over four years now under the alias <b>r_a_y</b>, but only after two years of online experience he started playing live tournaments.

2008 is pretty much <i>the</i> year of Montgomery's career. First of all because it's the first year he cashes in live tournaments, and he cashed <i>big</i>. <i>Twice</i>. First he played the WPT L.A. Poker Classic back in February and ran very well, finishing in 5th place. That was the first Major tournament he played, and it was obviously the best result of his career, where he got <b>$296,860</b> for his great performance.

Then, like many poker players, Montgomery wanted to prove his result during the WPT event was not a fluke. He went to Las Vegas to play the WSOP and have the summer of his life. Apart from the Main Event, Montgomery cashed in three events, the most meaningful of them being the 16th place finish in the Heads-Up World Championship. It is kinda curious, but The Main Event was only the third $10,000 buy-in tournament Montgomery played, and he managed to get a nice result in every one of those major tournaments.

Scott Montgomery has a Bachelor in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo and lists Daniel Negreanu as his favorite poker player. He mentions winning three consecutive online tournaments as one of his best poker memories. In an interview to Pokerlistings, Montgomery talked a bit about the opposition in the final table: <i>"There are a couple of bad players at the table, but you have three or four months to study up and they're going to improve a lot. There's no way they're going to have the same weaknesses as the last couple days. It'll be a whole different game."</i>

When the final table starts next Sunday, Scott will have 19,690,000 chips in front of him. Only Ivan "soul" Demidov and Dennis Phillips have more chips than him. Even though he isn't the chipleader, he is considered one of the heavy favorites to win it all.

I felt bad for that guy. He was running pretty terrible that episode...and then I wished I was there so I could just bitch slap Tiffany Michelle for calling clock on him int he A4o hand.

even though he said after that he thought he had aces, i dont believe he did because his speech when snead said "u want me to call?" he was very nervous, couldn't even talk and the few words he said were all "plz dont call" i mean wtf is "i want you to fold, i know im a head now but i dont want you to get there" or something...

Yeah, he even looks disgusted after Snead makes the call. You dont do that with aces against someone having a tough decision. Stupid hand tho, stupid shove from Montgomery (wtf at shoving , stupid clock call from Michelle, and the stupidest thing is the "I thought I had aces" remark afterwards.
