The November Nine: Ylon Schwartz

With <b>Ylon Schwartz</b>, a 38-year old poker player, it's no exception. He was a professional chess player and used to play chess games for money in the parks of New York. Eventually he got introduced to poker and saw that he could make a living out of it.

Even though Schwartz has been traveling the circuit for over 10 years now, his biggest cash is still "only" $49,960, which he got by finishing 3rd in the $500 No Limit Holdem tournament at the WPT World Poker Finals back in 2005". Concerning the WSOP, he has 12 cashes, more than all the others contenders. His first cash in the World Series came in the seeming distant 1998, when he final tabled the Seven-Card Stud Split event.

Although others might think otherwise, Ylon Schwartz is no stranger to online poker at all. He plays on both PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker under the alias <b>TenthPlanet</b>. Schwartz has had great tournament results in those rooms, such as winning the Sunday Second Chance, final tabling the Sunday Million and Sunday Warmup, and numerous deep finishes at the daily $100+R on Stars.

After failing to get the starting bid of $37,500 <i>twice</i>, Schwartz is now trying to sell those patches for the 3rd time, but now he is giving 50% of the auction to charity, with a starting price of $100,000.

If someone asks Ylon Schwartz what is he going to do after the Main Event, he already has the answer: <i>"Most people, after 20 years they retire. If I do well here, I'm going to get a hammock and a bottle of tequila and that'll be that."</i>

Yeah, looks like he's kinda abusing a charity to get more for himself . Dennis Philips also sold a patch of 10 square inch for advertisement, but he donated 100% of whatever he's making of that (I think it was 19k or something) to a charity to help find a cure for MS. Probably also part of the reason why Ylon didn't sell his auction, it actually said he expected it to be 100k to 300k dollar, while the Buy Now-price was 200k, lol.

But indeed, it's rather awkward, first you want 37.5k for yourself, now, because there's a charity involved, he wants 100k with 50k for himself! Although he has "Best offer" option on, I guess he'll take any decent bid that comes from it.

I guess he has talked to PokerStars about it and I doubt they'll allow other pokersites to advertise. He will also carry stars-logo's next to that I guess. This new tournament structure (months in between to "prepare" also gives a lot of room for more advertising and sponsorship. Next year we'll see tattoos with "Want to have your advertisement here? Call 1-800-exclusiveadvertisement" ???
