Today we will talk about the most known face out of the nine Main Event finalists: David "Chino" Rheem. Chino is a 28 year-old professional poker player who was born in Los Angeles, California. David Rheem has been playing poker professionally for over ten years, but only in the last three he started to show good results in live tournaments.
Even though he didn't win his big tournament yet, Chino can already be happy for reaching a WSOP Main Event final table, because that is definitely one of the biggest achievements one player can have in his career. Not only because of the immense amount of cash, but also due to the nice exposure around the world. Rheem's first meaningful live tournament cash came in 2005, during the World Series of Poker, when he cashed in one of the Limit Hold'em events. During the same edition of the series he cashed in the Main Event as well. In july of the next year he would go back to Las Vegas and win a $1,000 No Limit Hold'em event at the Bellagio for over $60,000. A few days after that, during the WSOP, he came close to winning his first bracelet in a very disputed $1,000 NLHE event. The final table was filled with great players, and Chino eventually lost the heads-up against Allen Cunningham. He finished in 2nd place for $327,981, the most important result of his career until this year's WSOP.
The highlight of 2008 for Chino is without a doubt the World Series. He reached his second WSOP final table in the $5,000 Mixed Event but once again met a very strong line-up of poker players and was eliminated in 5th place. Some of the players in that table were: Erick Lindgren, Howard Lederer, David Williams and Isaac Haxton. The best performance of Rheem's career happened during the most important event of the world, the WSOP Main Event. Chino ran good during one week and survived the seven days of the tournament to secure himself a place in the anticipated final table.
"It’s the biggest accomplishment of my poker career. Making the 2008 Main Event final table has changed my life financially and has allowed me to get endorsement deals." said David Rheem in an interview to Poker News Daily. Asked about the expectations for being the most known player, Rheem said: "I don't feel any pressure though. I'm freerolling in this tournament anyway. I should have been out already but I got lucky. (...) I'm going in there with no fear. I'm just going to play my game and whatever happens happens".
David "Chino" Rheem has plenty of chances in this table. He has 10,230,000 chips, more than enough to do some damage. Let's see if he can use the experience gained in the prior WSOP final tables to clinch the title. Unlike the other occasions, he is one of the big favorites here.
