2010 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion from Canada, Jonathan Duhamel, has parted ways with Team PokerStars Pro earlier this week.
Neither poker room or the player himself decided to share the information why the parties decided to part ways, but official representative from PokerStars commented that they "won't be working together in the future."
Duhamel was a part of Team PokerStars for over 4 years and rumours about his sponsorship ending first appeared during World Poker Tour Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown where he was seen not wearing any PokerStars patch. Duhamel was also removed from the list of the Team PokerStars Pro members on the room's website.
Duhamel is still the best earning Canadian player after Daniel Negreanu, with $12,786,360 made, according to HendonMob.

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen

I would imagine it was just Stars cutting back his benefits/salary, they probably just came to a stand still and he just quit

@Carthac, not at all.
@TimDawg, you are pretty much spot on. Stars is now very demanding on a lot of pros and gives less in return. Not all deals are good anymore, not worth it for some.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us and as we let our own lights shine we unconsciously give other people permision to do the same

Well, poker is in decline.
Also if they require more from those pros like: playing online more hours for example and not just play in events that they sponsor buy ins - would seem pretty resonable to me. Especially since poker needs more good ambassadors now then ever. |
