 Almost a year ago we told you about completely new version of PokerStars software. Poker room already implemented a working version to the players some time ago, but left options open to the players: you could choose the 6.0 version and play unaffected by the change, or choose the new one.
However, the time has come and PokerStars decided to discount the older version of the software, as we can read "With over 450,000 players using PokerStars 7 daily, our new software is now fully released, and we are moving to the next stage, where everyone will be using PokerStars 7. At the next software update, our older version (PokerStars 6) will be discontinued."
If you are already using PokerStars 7, the only impact for you is that the 'Revert to PokerStars 6' option will be removed from ‘Settings’.
If not, please all players still running PokerStars 6 will automatically be upgraded to PokerStars 7 within few days.

Q: How can I get back to PokerStars 7 now to try it again?
A: From the menu at the top of your PokerStars 6 lobby, click ‘Upgrade to PokerStars 7’ on the right side of the menu bar. We recommend taking time now to get familiar with PokerStars 7 before the upgrade.
Q: Would I be able to continue to use PokerStars 6 if I want?
A: Not after the upgrade, no. We are discontinuing PokerStars 6; it will no longer be available. When this process is completed, everyone will be using PokerStars 7.
Q: How long will PokerStars 6 remain available?
A: Just until the next client update – within days to a week or so.
Q: Why is PokerStars 6 being discontinued?
A: In order to deliver the best poker software we have to focus on one client, and the best way to do this is to get everyone using the new software. We cannot efficiently keep simultaneous development going on two different software versions, as both clients would suffer.
After more than one year of user testing, we feel that PokerStars7 is now ready to take over and deliver the best possible experience to our players, and we will focus all of our development effort on this platform.
Q: I really prefer the tab system of the PokerStars 6 lobby. Does PokerStars 7 use tabs?
A: Yes – PokerStars 7 was designed to be as flexible as possible. It can be customized to use tabs in the style of PokerStars 6 for the Main Lobby, so the new software can look and function much like the old version for finding games and tournaments. To use this feature, go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Lobby’ > ‘Lobby Display’ and select your Main Lobby control style.
But with that said, the new filter controls in PokerStars 7 are more powerful and more flexible than the tab system. For example, with filters you can enable combinations such as NLHE plus PLO, or Medium and Low stakes. We believe that once you spend a few minutes getting familiar with the new filters, you will join the thousands of players who prefer filters over tabs.
Q: Will I be able to keep my player notes?
A: Yes, your existing notes should appear in the PokerStars 7 client just as they did in PokerStars 6.
Q: Will I be able to keep my settings and preferences?
A: Yes, for the most part, your settings from PokerStars 6 will transfer to PokerStars 7. Depending on what you had customized in PokerStars 6, you may have a few features that you will have to configure again in PokerStars 7. All of the Options and Requests in PokerStars 6 have been mapped to the Settings app and Tools app of PokerStars 7, but they are organized a little differently to better accommodate future expansion and to be more navigable for new players.
Q: Will my third-party software tools work with PokerStars 7?
A: You will need to check with your software provider as PokerStars does not test its software for compatibility with third-party applications. PokerStars 7 has been publicly available for six months, and many vendors have adapted their tools to our new software.
Q: Do I have to download or install new software?
A: No, if you already have PokerStars 6 installed on your desktop, then the first time you open it after the client update for the switchover, it will upgrade automatically and open as PokerStars 7.
Q: Is there anything in the new PokerStars 7 client to explain how the UI works?
A: Yes – each lobby has an interactive ‘Feature Guide’ that highlights the controls and explains their function. You can engage and dismiss the guide as often as you like.
