PokerStars denies rumors about accepting Bitcoins

In the early December and right after New Years Eve rumours started going around that the worlds biggest poker operator, PokerStars, is gearing up to accept the new and very innovative methods of payments - BitCoins.

Chris Grove from OPR was certain this is in the works, as he commented for PocketFives: "They're not going to handle taking Bitcoin internally, so they'd need a vendor in the same way you'd need a vendor to process credit card transactions," Grove told us. According to Gambling Compliance, "PokerStars and major Asian-facing operators are among those pushing for Bitcoin's acceptance as three prominent gambling hubs hold advanced talks to allow it as a payment method. The big advantage of Bitcoin, some would argue, is that when you look at markets that don't have a strong payment processing framework, it allows you to enter those markets. That's the long-term play: it broadens the map of markets they can participate in."

It's hard to argue there is a solid logic behind this reasoning, and poker rooms like Seals with Clubs and Breakout Gaming already accept Bitcoins for quite some time, while a lot of major companies are starting to accept that form of payment as well (Newegg, TigerDirect or Overstock come to mind as example).

However, as the rumours were getting backed up with some decent informations, PokerStars representative came with a hard denial when asked about the situation by CoinDesk: "PokerStars has no immediate plans to implement bitcoin, and it is not on our development roadmap."

He also added that even if it's not a plan to accept bitcoins in the near future, PokerStars continues to monitor the market.

I've been telling the community for nearly 2 years, bitcoin is going to destroy stars. Everyone has been saying bitcoin is a no brainer for stars to adopt, and I have been banned from every site that stars pays the main ad rent on.

I know the truth. I read the material. I am knowledge, I am clarity. https://thewealthofchips.wordpress.com/

For every account that argues me. Ask them: Do you know what you are talking about?

Every person that argues will always have an opinion about bitcoin, but they will never be educated...

To be honest, "accepting Bitcoin" means going into partnership with a company like BitPay that basically exchanges bitcoin right away into $/€/currency of your choice and transfer it to your accounts. It's not like PokerStars will add a separate balance so that players can keep Bitcoins on their PS accounts.

Therefore, I'm kinda curious about why you think that. Care to explain?

I appreciate the sincere questions (especially cause I was being brash), but I have read your comment/question a few times and cannot understand it in relation to the subject. Why would a player go through bitpay to exchange money for $ or euro in order to play on stars? Or in other hand how is that integrating bitcoin?

And yes stars won't have separate balance for bitcoin, in the future no site will. Having a bankroll in today sense is really about payment methods and fees and times to cash in/out. Players will soon learn to demand intstant and costless transfer between sites. Maybe stars won't participate but all other sites will.
