Jason Mercier became one of the top tournament player in the world just few years ago - he won EPT San Remo out of nowhere, and then a string of solid victories and insane results came in. Now, this Team PokerStars pro took down the latest WPT Alpha8 high roller event in the Caribbean for a $727,500 pay day. With this win his lifetime earnings exceed $14,000,000, moving him to the 11th spot of most successful live tournament players list.
It was a small field of just 15 players, but amongst those names we could see tournament gurus like Dan Colman, Olivier Busquet and Antonio Esfandiari. The buy-in was $100,000 buy-in. Mercies went through the field with quite a blast, defeating Kathy Lehne heads-up for the title and a $727,500, as mentioned.
Kathy Lehne earned $436,500 for her second place finish, which is pretty impressive, as her largest recorded cash win prior to this tournament was just $26,560. The third player to finish in the money was an unknown, Tony Guglietti was the only other player to cash, taking $291,000 for third place.
Mercier, who already owns a gold championship WSOP bracelet and EPT title isn't however going to get the prestigious Triple Crown. Unfortunately, Alpha 8 tournaments are not counted towards World Poker Tour main series.
