Nevada is currently the only state offering legal online poker in the United States and has recently passed a bill that allows it to team up with other states to offer interstate online poker. Sandoval has not said which governors he talked to.
"I’ve talked with a few governors and I’m introducing the concept of compacting, it’s very much in the early stages and we have a great opportunity because we have the infrastructure and other states have the players,” said Gov. Sandoval.
So far, Ultimate Poker is the only active online poker room in Nevada, but it shouldn't take long before other companies enter the market. Some rooms have already applied for a license with the Nevada Gaming Commission and are waiting for approval. Sandoval is aware that it might take a while before we see the first interstate compact though: [i]"“There are some things that have to happen in other states before compacts can be signed. Texas, for example, needs to legalize Internet poker and lawmakers have until May 27 to pass the measure before the regular legislative session ends.”
In addition to Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware have also approved intrastate online poker, but are still working on a regulatory framework. California, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Iowa have shown interest on the matter.
