PokerStars to open its first UK-based live poker room

PokerStars revealed that it plans to open a live poker room in London in 2013. Yesterday we got news that PokerStars came to an agreement with London's largest casino, the Hippodrome, and its likely that innauguration of the PokerStars branded room will take place early next year.

"The Hippodrome has dramatically raised the quality bar for the UK casino industry", Guy Templer, a PokerStars representative, told pokerfuse.com. "So together we will give poker players the same great poker experience, live 24/7 in the heart of London that they get from PokerStars online. We are looking forward to unveiling some great new live events for the UK poker market in 2013."

In addition to the live poker room, PokerStars took an equity investment in the Hippodrome as a part of the deal and has agreed to provide the software for a future Hippodrome online poker site.




“Run it Twice” live on PokerStars test client

It took a while longer than expected, but PokerStars newest feature "Run it twice" is finally being tested on TestPokerStars.com, a server that only allows free chip play. There is no official date on when it will go live on PokerStars.com, but it's reasonable to assume that it will be included in the next major software update. Full Tilt Poker used to take extra rake from pots that are run twice, but that's not going to be the case on PokerStars according to Lee Jones.

If you are not familiar with the "Run it twice" concept, players involved in the hand have the option to agree to run the board twice in order to reduce variance. That happens when the players are all-in before the river. If each player wins one, the pot is split. The feature made some success in televised poker shows such as High Stakes poker. The idea is also fairly old in the online poker scene, as Merge Gaming started it in April 2008.

I once played a 1000+ bb pot at the rio 5/10..the guy offered to run it twice but i declined and held my TPTK against his FD+gutterball.

omg at the Hippodrome? I can basically see that casino across the road out of the window of my apartment from where I live in london, if it's the Leicester Square one. Too bad I'm moving halfway thru next year
