Brent Beckley, Absolute Poker co-owner, was sentenced to 14 months in prison after admitting to deceiving banks over the processing of gambling proceeds. Beckley pleaded guilty to three charges back in December of 2011, and has been cooperating with the Department of Justice ever since. Beckley had been the head of payment processing for AP since 2003, when he joined the company.
"I fooled myself into thinking that what I was doing was OK," Beckley told U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan.
Kaplan said Beckley deserved prison time despite his surrender and cooperation because "the sentence has to make clear that the government of the United States means business in these types of cases."
Beckley was one of 11 people charged in April 2011, when the US Department of Justice took action against PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker/Ultimate Bet. Beckley was the first of six people directly involved with AP/UB, PS or FTP to plead guilty. Full Tilt Poker’s chief, Ray Bitar, surrendered to U.S. authorities on July 2nd, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Bitar was released on a $2.5 million bail on July 9th.
Beckley's sentence may be seen as a small one, considering he could have faced up to 30 years in prison.

14 months in the pokey, minus whatever he will get for good behavior, which is probably 3 months off or so. |

He won't... it's federal prison, he's with other white collar sleezbags telling bedtime stories and laughing about what they are going to do when they get out |
