is that a bad call? Was putting him on JJ+ and i flopped top pair.. Pretty afraid of AK, but decided to call. he is 30/30/18 in about 25 hands.

i don't like raise/fold because hes never flat-calling with worse, so it's purely for protection which our hand doesnt need

Even though villian is 3betting 18% he still has a lot of equity against A8s, and he has the lead. If he can fold preflop i like 4 betting preflop, and if he can't then i think we can nit it up and wait for a hand we can bet purely for value against his range.
